Why do reporters need to risk their lives for us to know the extent and strength of a storm? Why do we not have better technology for predicting and reporting weather? Why are we experiencing a worsening climate crisis?

It is sweet, of course, that people will be concerned about the safety of people in the field, but I would argue that it is more important to emphasize why the dangers are there in the first place.

What story is told when a person reports in the middle of a storm? What story is told when you report from the safety of a shelter?

I do not know for sure, I am not a journalist, but I think criticism of reporters for putting themselves in danger to cover news misses the whole point of the profession: to tell the story of what is happening.

I am afraid the rot has reached my last two brain cells.
