It's not always crowded, but new rules do make it harder to access. Everyone must walk to the temple after parking a few streets away. And no cell phones are allowed in. That area does see a lot of traffic!

The all-female conservation initiative started slowly, with just a few women. Support for the hargila from local women soon grew and began to snowball. Today, the Hargila Army includes 20,000 women from 47 villages – all of whom have signed a pledge to protect the bird. www.bbc.com/future/artic...
