Yesterday 100s of people from across the UK came together in Parliament to meet with their MPs about the Govt.'s disastrous earned settlement plans. Together, we shared our concerns directly with 80+ MPs.

A massive thank you to everyone who joined & helped make it happen. This is just the start.

Deaths of 22 children in Channel due to โ€˜catastrophic failureโ€™ by UK and France, NGO says Project Play finds UK taxpayers are funding โ€˜record child fatalitiesโ€™ and โ€˜repeated violenceโ€™ against children in northern France

๐Ÿ’”๐Ÿ’”๐Ÿ’”
1/ 22 children lost their lives crossing the Channel in the last 2 years.
During this period, the UK paid France ยฃ473 million and authorities used ever harsher and violent methods to try and stop people crossing.
This approach has failed catastrophically.

 Nelsonโ€™s lawyer Nicola said:

I am thrilled that Nelson is finally a British Citizen. For someone who has lived in the UK for so long, and has been at the heart of his local community, the near 50-year journey to secure this legal recognition has been far too long.

If the Governmentโ€™s earned settlement proposals become law, many more people could face journeys just as long or even longer to be legally settled in the country they call home. Some may never reach this milestone at all.

Nelsonโ€™s story tells the importance of achieving settlement and citizenship, and the precarious reality of living with limited leave to remain. Placing more people on extended routes to settlement would be entirely disproportionate and unfair."

NEWS: Yesterday, Nelson Shardey was granted British citizenship following a ceremony at Wallasey Town Hall. A local legend, Nelson has been in the UK for 49 years, since 1977. He hit headlines in 2024 when, represented by GMIAU, he legally challenged the Home Office.

The conversation about housing is all wrong.

For decades, governments havenโ€™t built enough social homes. People are struggling. Yet refugees get blamed.

Our new video flips the narrative and focuses on the real issue.

Watch it. Share it. Letโ€™s change the conversation.

Right to Remain staff members and These Walls Must Fall campaigners standing by the banner that says 'Migration is Life'.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined our Annual Gatherings in Birmingham and Leeds!

People fighting for migration justice and are currently going through the hostile asylum and immigration system came together to connect with each other, share ideas and build power. More on this, next week...

Tweet from Keir Starmer in 2018 responds to a story about asylum seekers' 20 year ways for refugee status saying "Completely unacceptable. Either make speedy decisions (i.e. under 6 month) or let asylum seekers work. To do neither is a denial of human diginity.

Remember when Keir Starmer thought trapping people for two decades in poverty was "a denial of human dignity"?

It's common sense, and our leaders know it. Let people work, make decisions quickly and let people settle.

These comments are at odds with Manchester's values.

As Mancunians, immigration is in our DNA. It's in our diversity, resilience, charisma and colour.

We invite Jim to meet with us, learn more about our work, and engage in constructive discussion.

Our statement:

'It is a 'bold", by which we mean offensive, move for the co-owner of Manchester United to state such blatantly racist and incorrect information about migrants. The Premier League is a wonderful example of how diversity and immigration can bring strengths and benefits to wider groups. The same is true of immigration as a whole. We are stronger together than divided. We are stronger when we don't discriminate.
When we come to the UK we integrate, we form bonds, we are part of communities. Those spreading racism and hate want to see communities divided, but we know that more people stand united"

"'UK has been colonised by immigrants', says INEOS boss and Man Utd co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe
In an interview with Sky News's Ed Conway, Sir Jim says Britain faces profound political, social and economic challenges, among them an unprecedented rise in immigration in recent years."

The Premier League is a perfect example of how diversity and immigration can make us stronger.
We are disappointed to see unfounded, and untrue, statements like this being repeated.
Rather than spreading misinformation about migrants we should all stand united.

300,000 children face 10-year wait for settled status under UK plans, says IPPR Thinktank analysis says proposed โ€˜earned settlementโ€™ changes could trap families in prolonged insecurity

๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘
Vital research by @ippr.org on how the government's plans to increase settlement routes will harm hundreds of thousands of children's future prospects.
It doesn't have to to be this way.
The government should cap settlement routes, not expand them.

Birmingham Council urged to โ€˜take stand against nightmarish migration plansโ€™ Birmingham Council has been urged by campaigners and refugees to take a stand against โ€˜nightmarishโ€™ government plans for migration.

Every local authority that values a diverse, cohesive community should stand against them.
