Do not sign up for a PhD out of inertia. You’re going to spend several years studying something deeply, and you’d better have enough interest in the subject to get you through the tough times.
What if I’m not sure I really want to do physics? That’s ok! That’s completely ok! Do enough that you’re satisfied with your effort, then take all those transferable skills to a field that does excite you.
Do you ever stop worrying that you’re not good enough or smart enough? That lessens, but never goes away (speaking for myself!).
I was on a career panel tonight with several awesome women* but the best questions probably came in the short networking time afterwards.
