Honestly I think this guy in 1966 or whatever had the right idea, but he truly couldn't fathom how much worse it was gonna get. I tried to watch MOBY DICK (1956) on Pluto yesterday and every ad break was for Brendan Schaub's podcast.
Edited still from SABOTEUR. Priscilla Lane drives while Robert Cummings, handcuffed, holds a badly photoshopped subway sandwich.
Alfred Hitchcock's SUBOTEUR (1942)
For my first feature for @latimes.com, I talked to director Clint Bentley, his writing partner Greg Kwedar, and Joel Edgerton about TRAIN DREAMS, an intimate epic I'd encourage you to see in theaters before it hits Netflix later this month: www.latimes.com/entertainmen...
Enjoying some organic Audio Narrative Content as the two girls at the table behind me—who have skipped class to study together for an upcoming quiz—realize that the quiz is, in fact, happening right now in the class they skipped.
February 6, 1971 Dear Alan Arkin, Your picture will never be forgotten. It is not only a good picture, but what is more important, it is a record of a stage of the destruction of our world. You managed to do what pleases me the most in the art of directing movies: I mean to forget that there is a camera. We are the unseen witnesses of a terrible drama in which not only your heroes are involved but also all our contemporaries. It is a terrifying film, treated as lightly as a Broadway comedy. Thank you for having shown to me this modern version of a Greek tragedy. [signed] Jean Renoir [punctuation mine]
Little Murders was a flop on Broadway and a flop as a movie and it is amazing. (Streaming on Prime) I saw it for the first time in June. In Q&A Elliott Gould said that Jean Renoir(!) had written a letter to Alan Arkin praising the film. Here's the letter, as read by EG on the bluray commentary track

1. Several million people are about to learn the term "transference."
2. I always thought that what Daniel Paul Schreber really needed was a front-facing camera.
*Forgetting how gay slang works* Sooooooo, which one of you is the Master and which one is the Commander?
Alright, who wants to go see all three screenings with me?
Had dinner outside at the sidewalk rotisserie chicken joint before an evening screening of TWO WEEKS IN ANOTHER TOWN and they played the entire Meat is Murder album. No amount of cops, cybertrucks, or poorly done dermal fillers will change the fact that L.A. is the greatest city on earth.
Methinks part of the LA Times homepage didn't update. Otherwise, uh,
Beginning an expedition to find the worst-received Frederick Wiseman doc
Screenshot that reads: Massacre Video is proud to present the global release of the notorious CAT 3 classic, “Horrible High Heels,” fully uncut and uncensored for the first time. This edition boasts a brand new 2k scan from the original camera negatives, including the infamous ‘goose scene’ that was removed from previous versions. Enhanced with newly created English subtitles, this release provides a complete and unfiltered experience of one of Hong Kong’s most extreme exploitation slashers, offering a pristine and disturbing journey into horror for audiences around the world.

Watching linear television in 2025 feels like going to a ren faire. Like I'm "watching" a "program" on a "channel." Wait never mind now Pluto is showing me a commercial for Brendan Schaub's podcast what the fuck

Sinners in 70mm IMAX was superb, but I couldn’t bring myself to get a Smoke or Stack popcorn bucket once I saw the Accountant 2 swag
No offense to Mr. Pizzaballa, but it's extremely weird to imagine the possibility of a Gen X pope. The pope is supposed to be guided by voices, not out here having opinions about Guided by Voices.
Earth Day in Los Angeles!!! The L.A. Dash buses are free, but this time it's on purpose!
