Potentially naive question: can't the market movement also be the difference between the expectation and the realisation? Hypothetical: in t=1, I expect 50% zero change in t=2 and 50% -10p.p. drop. Rational market goes to -5p.p. In t=2, -10p.p. outcome realises and I move the remaining -5p.p.
