NY judge finds that Columbia bent the rules in attempting to expel and suspend nonviolent student protesters.
This only adds to the perception that these extreme punishments served a political--rather than educational or public safety--purpose.

A Boston resident died in ICE custody due to medical neglect. ICE abducted him from a police precinct, despite a pending asylum claim.

Gov. Healey has spoken out against ICE abuses, but her words are meaningless without action.
Our Jewish values compel us to call on her to protect our residents from cruel, lawless agents bent on tearing families apart.
It is beyond time for @massgovernor.bsky.social to act.
Through this agreement, MA has transferred over 2000 prisoners to ICE custody since 2009.
This leads not only to deportations, but also indeterminately long detentions in cruel, unsanitary, and unaccountable ICE facilities, *after* prisoners have completed their time.

Meanwhile, Massachusetts maintains a 287(g) agreement with ICE to funnel prisoners into immigration detention and deportation proceedings. We are the *only* blue-trifecta state with a state-level 287(g) agreement with ICE.

If you dig into the data, reports @arnorosenfeld.bsky.social, you'll see "nearly half of the Jews who don’t identify as either Zionist or anti-Zionist," who make up 56% of the total, "think Israel committed genocide against the Palestinians" and is guilty of apartheid.

When students can be grabbed from their dorms under false pretenses, the whole project of higher education is threatened.
We call on all university and government leaders to ensure that students have safe living and learning environments and are protected from lawless abduction.
As the piece explains, the Treasury Dept has conceded (in a suit brought by @knightcolumbia.org ) that US law allows academic conferences to include sanctioned speakers.
So there was no legal need for @usouthernmaine.bsky.social to cancel. Rather, they bowed to political pressure from Republicans.
