Standing under the dark skies in Montauk this morning was perfect. Nothing beats photographing the Milky Way this time of year since there's no bugs and no crowds of other photographers around.

The statement from NOAA:
Through strategic transformation, staff reallocation, and updated service standards, NWS is ensuring resilience and continuity of mission-critical functions. Reports suggesting otherwise are false and disrespectful.
Sunrise this morning from New Jersey. Thereβs nothing quite like witnessing the sun slowly rise over the NYC skyline.
No one takes you seriously on any platform you are on. Give it up already.
You know I'm not insulting Liz, who I have great respect for. You on the other hand are a real piece of crap. Have the day you deserve.

For those keeping score at home...
Denver: Stopped launching balloons in 2022 because of helium shortages
Tallahassee: Stopped launching balloons in 2024 because of helium shortages
Kotzebue, Albany, and Gray: Weather balloons stopped in March 2024 because of staffing shortages.
You're never funny.
Do you always have to be an asshole?
To everyone reading thisβspeak up! Call your representatives, demand answers, and do not let this go unnoticed. This is not just a weather issueβthis is a public safety crisis. This administration should be ashamed. This is unacceptable.
To my friends at the NWS who were laid off today; I stand with you. You deserve better. The American people deserve better.
I am absolutely outraged at this reckless decision. There is no justification for laying off the very people who work around the clock to keep us safe. This isnβt just numbers on a budget sheet. These are real people, with real families, whose work saves real lives.
Cutting NWS staff is cutting our first line of defense against mother nature. How many lives need to be lost before this administration realizes that gutting public safety is not the answer? The U.S. already faces increasing extreme weather events due to climate change.
Let me be absolutely clear. This decision is bullshit and will cost lives. These experts are the ones who give us those extra crucial minutes to take cover before a tornado hits, the ones who guide emergency managers during hurricanes, and the ones who issue flood warnings that help evacuate people
These are the same people who work tirelessly to issue tornado warnings, track hurricanes, predict winter storms, and provide life-saving information to millions of Americans.
This afternoon, the current presidential administration unjustly laid off many National Weather Service (NWS) employees, including some of my close personal friends. They are dedicated meteorologists, forecasters, and technicians who have spent their careers protecting lives.
If you see this, post a weather.
