it’s certainly *possible* rex had size dimorphism, but until we can determine the sex of each specimen across the wide size range of adult rex fossils, we won’t be able to make a definitive statement

we know the sex of this particular specimen, yes- one of the coolest recent T. rex discoveries among many. But we sadly sadly don’t have sufficient sample size to determine conclusively whether males or females would consistently outsize one or the other.

it is, however, hypothesized that the horns on their lacrimals (eyebrows) may have had keratinous extensions for sexual display or intraspecific competition (since they were known to bite each other’s heads and survive)

fun fact: we’ve seen zero skeletal evidence of sexual dimorphism in T. rex. It’s entirely possible that either sex of the animal were equally brick shithouses
