Met lots of great people very enthusiastic about open source. Avoided all the AI talks. I can watch those later, but the talks and presentations that led to great discussions with people I met were the most valuable and most interesting.

Reflecting on #Scale23x - thinking about Cindy Cohn / EFF keynote, Amy Parker's Censorship Evasion talk, Amy Fermanian's Warp, Weft & Code, and how tech CEOs push heavy reliance on LLM/AI.
However, people, environment, community are still most important + most valuable. People over profit.
Have you noticed that people who spend too long chatting with chatbots, stop making any fucking kind of sense?
The reason why is that the bot will never, ever, go "what the fuck are you talking about? What are you even trying to communicate here?"
Also just realized Intelligentsia has a location in Pasadena just north of Copa Vida...they have good coffee too, but haven't been there in a long time.
I heard good things about Coffee and Plants which looks like they open at 7AM - haven't checked them out yet though but close to #scale23x
My spelling is terrible before my morning coffee. βοΈ
Fun and busy week... NELA Computer Club (nelacomputer.club), Catching up with a friend at Angel City Brewery, and #Scale23x - learning about @meshtastic.org - definitely was worth it setting up a Heltec LoRa v3 - so many folks on the public channel at Scale23x!!!
Missed the session but brings to mind the need to have some sort of vetting and clear guidelines on how to best contribute in the area of AI tools. Definitely see security, quality, community aspects being compromised otherwise.
This War Will Destabilize The Entire Mideast Region And Set Off A Global Shockwave Of Anti-Americanism vs. No It Wonβt
OCASIO-CORTEZ STATEMENT ON TRUMP'S COMBAT OPERATIONS IN IRAN "The American people are once again dragged into a war they did not want by a president who does not care about the long-term consequences of his actions. This war is unlawful. It is unnecessary. And it will be catastrophic. "Just this week, Iran and the United States were negotiating key measures that could have staved off war. The President walked away from these discussions and chose war instead.President Trump flippantly acknowledged the possibility of American casualties, stating "that often happens in war.' "Mr. President: this was not an inevitability. This is a deliberate choice of aggression when diplomacy and security were within reach. Stop lying to the American people. "Violence begets violence. We learned this lesson in Iraq. We learned this lesson in Afghanistan. And we are about to learn it again in Iran. Bombs have yet to create enduring democracies in the region and this will be no different. "In moments of war, our Constitution is unambiguous: Congress authorizes war. The President does not. I will do my part to uphold our Constitution by voting YES on Representatives Ro Khanna and Thomas Massie's War Powers Resolution. Every member of Congress must join us in rejecting this aimless war.

Yes, Star Trek fans.
@chanda.blacksky.app tells it like it is here.
Or as Iβve posted before:
"They say they're coming to save us from some evil? They're talking about our neighbors who take care of us ... Alex was murdered while he was helping. Mr Rogers said look for the helpers, & right now the helpers have a target on our forehead ... Mr Rogers would be here right now too, so I'm here."
I'm looking for witnesses/victims of DHS retaliating against people who were recording their agents (ICE, Border Patrol, FPS, etc.) in Southern California.
This is for LA Press Club v. Noem case, but victim does NOT need to be press/journalist. Everyone has right to record. We're fighting for all.

We're currently in the biggest game of the Dollar Auction ever created. Each new frontier model represents a bid, whose cost is paid for at the time that it is trained. But the AI market is a most-capable winner-take-most game.

New: Google has chosen a side in Trump's mass deportation campaign. Google is hosting a CBP facial recognition app to hunt immigrants; no indication Google will remove. At same time Google takes down apps for reporting ICE sightings

Alt text: Screenshot of text describing the "Compact for Academic Excellence in Higher Education." It says the compact asks universities to adopt the governmentβs definition of gender for bathrooms, locker rooms, and womenβs sports teams. It also asks colleges to stop considering race, gender, and other demographics in admissions and to require undergraduates to take the SAT or ACT.
The university compact being offered to universities requires colleges to eliminate the recognition of trans people and ban them from bathrooms, locker rooms, and gender segregated dorms.

βElite preferenceβ is why everything sucks. Their only vision of the future is shittier versions of their hollow lifestyles β personal drivers (Uber), vacation homes (Airbnb), servants (Door Dash), exec assistants (chatGPT) β while they capture and destroy every democratic institution in their way.
A reporter should ask Karoline Leavitt whetherβif she had to choose just oneβsheβd pick prayers or body armor for protection if she were being shot at with a semiautomatic weapon.
