Image of a smiling woman sat in a theatre, pointing to a slide behind her with her image on it, announcing her as the science speaker for the evening
When #scicomm = learning by laughing! Last Saturday, I took part in an improv show by The Catalyst (thecatalyst.ch) - an Anglophone sci-tertainment collective based in Lausanne, CH. I gave a 5-min layperson-friendly talk on #workingmemory, which the improvisers then used as inspiration for a skit π§ π

Beyond Routine Maintenance: Current Trends in Working Memory Research
Abstract. Working memory (WM) is an evolving concept. Our understanding of the neural functions that support WM develops iteratively alongside the approaches used to study it, and both can be profound...
Inspired by this year's Working Memory Symposium, we wrote an article looking toward the future of WM
Big shout-out to Anastasia Kiyonaga for spearheading & to co-organizers @lauraklatt.bsky.social, @neurojacob.bsky.social, M. RΓΆsner, @keisukefukuda.bsky.social

quokka β an in-browser qualitative analysis app
YouTube video by Dr William Ngiam
Announcing a side-project that I have been working on for the past few months β introducing quokka, a free-to-use, in-browser app for qualitative coding. My goal was to make an app that was fairly intuitive and flexible so that it could fit most workflows. An app demo here: youtu.be/9jJK70W0hAI?...

I've been thinking that cognitive research needs to better interface with journalists and the public - there's an appetite for our expertise but scientists still mostly work towards and rely on peer-reviewed articles. We can break the pipeline by reviewing preprints and signalling quality ourselves.

The academics who helped breathe new life into Notre-Dame
Five years after a devastating fire, the Paris cathedral has finally reopened,Β with the help of a vast team of researchers
'When Notre-Dame reopened on 7 December, it was thanks, in part, to the efforts of 175 researchers with expertise across a range of disciplines: acoustics, art, data, history, archaeology, anthropology.' Example of why blue-skies research matters for 'real-life' problems we've not yet imagined. 1/2

Yes! To exist is to constantly communicate with the environment. Input from environment to cognition via sensation & perception. Output to environment from cognition via action. So it makes sense that each one of these elements influence each other over development.
