Bobby dances with the guy from the New Year’s Eve story, says goodbye to Daemond from the Loki story, visits his father’s grave with his mother, and brings an ice bouquet to Romeo. Story and art by Luciano Vecchio.

The issue managed to seamlessly blend all aspects of Bobby’s life: his relationship with his parents, Christian Frost, Romeo, Firestar, and Northstar, and the other heroes (”You guys really should call me more often!”); his motivations and self reflections; and his power.

Just great stuff.

Firestar rallies Northstar to help Bobby by saying, “He needs his amazing friends. Are we ready?” And Northstar replies, “To combine our ightspeed and star heat to try to cancel out his power aura, even if it kills us? For Otter-Pop, yeah.”

Anyone else cheer when Firestar says, “He needs his amazing friends. Are we ready?” 💕

Loki “powers up” Bobby by giving him his crown and staff to defeat the Frost Giant who looks like Bobby’s deceased father. Story and art by Luciano Vecchio.

Iceman teams up with Silver Surfer to defeat Tyros the Terrible. Story and art by Luciano Vecchio.

The story where Bobby and Loki are captured by a misunderstood guy, Daemond, gives Bobby a chance to understand his capabilities as well as demonstrate his empathy.

And the team up with Silver Surfer to defeat Tyros the Terrible? Thrilling.

Bobby sits down with Rictor and Northstar to discuss his life, mentioning Christian Frost and Romeo the Inhuman. Story and art by Luciano Vecchio.

One of the reasons this story is so good is that it shows Bobby in outside the action sequences. Here, we see him at a “gays who brunch” scene with Northstar and Rictor. It’s just fun. (Otter-Pop? Adorable use of gay terminology.)

And his reunion with Romeo? Chef’s kiss.

Bobby is hit with a power-dampening dart (hence why he isn’t in his ice form), but points out to himself that he is still an Omega-level mutant who is quite capable of still defeating the bad guy, in this case, Purifire. Story and art by Luciano Vecchio.

Oh, and the action sequence with Purifire is quite good, too. 😉

I like how Vecchio shows Bobby’s resilience when hit with a power-dampening dart, and finding his confidence as an Omega-level mutant.

Bobby asks the guy he just saved (who is in his arms), “Are you okay?” The guy responds, “I’m in heaven.” (You speak for us all, dude!) Bobby says, blushing, “Just…stay away from the action and let me handle the monsters.”

After Purifire has been defeated, the guy finds Bobby and delivers a kiss to thank him properly. Bobby thinks, “Okay, I could definitely get used to this.” Story and art by Luciano Vecchio.

The main story is the perfect blend of action, characterization, romance, spice, drama, and gays who brunch.

It’s nice to see gay men receive the same kind of adoration as the straights, and it is treated as normal. When Bobby saves a random guy, he is rewarded with a kiss (and later a dance).

Iceman fights Ikthalon, a fellow creature of the cold. Story and art by Luciano Vecchio.

In the New Year’s Eve tale, Vecchio sums up Bobby nicely in a single page, providing the motivation for defeating Ikthalon and his icy tendrils. There’s a real flair here, harkening back to vintage comics.

Iceman: Omega #1 reprints Mighty Marvel Holiday Special: Iceman’s New Year’s Resolutions, Marvel’s Voice: Iceman #14, Marvel’s Voice (2020, excerpt), and Marvel’s Voices: Price (2021, excerpt).
