'Stop, Mortal! Here thy brother lies
The Poet of the Poor
His books were rivers, woods and skies
The meadow and the moor,
His teachers were the torn heartsβ wail,
The tyrant, and the slave,
The street, the factory, the jail,
The palace β and the grave!'

Good art stands the test of time, whatever its motive. I suspect we will remember Constable, HΓ€ndel, Lowry and Wordsworth long after Armitage, Hockney and SchΓΆnberg have been forgotten. Undoubtedly some will survive but who? Banksy, Betjeman, James Horner and John Williams, maybe. Bets?
@pippaheylings.bsky.social Thanks for raising the state of South Cambridgeshire roads in the House today, Pippa. It needed saying. Unfortunately it is action not words we need. There are still far too many potholes and they seem to be growing faster than they are fixed, creating a serious danger.
Todayβs National Cancer Plan marks a major breakthrough in improving early diagnosis for leukaemia, with a new metric aiming to reduce the number of cancers diagnosed in an emergency setting β something we have campaigned for relentlessly. This is a major step forward for people with leukaemia and a huge testament to the strength of our communityβs voices. We are now ready to work with Government to ensure this plan will deliver earlier diagnosis, improved survival and better quality of life for the thousands of people diagnosed with leukaemia every year. Together, we will stop leukaemia devastating lives. Fiona Hazell, Leukaemia UK CEO

No sneezing! Hold your nose and count to nine.
If you sneeze, you'll wake the feline.

Thanks for the 'flu jab!
The other night in bed I suddenly had a stuffy nose, a cough and a headache. I thought 'Oh, no! Is this the 'flu?'. But by morning it all gone. Back to normal. My immune system seems to have been taught to handle this nasty thing.

Nusrat has a good knowledge of procedure and doesn't stand any nonsense. An excellent deputy speaker.
There is a great story this week in the Peterborough Telegraph about the Peterborough Civic Society who have produced a leaflet about the area's milestones. #PeterboroughCivicSociety #PeterboroughTelegraph #milestones www.facebook.com/groups/Miles...
There are many things upon which Chris Hinchliff and I disagree. But this is not one of them. I agree with him 100%. Urgent government action is needed and aid must get through to Palestine.
I happened to see a few minutes of the select committee hearing on the crisis at the BBC. The MP asked a simple yes-no question. The response she gets from the BBC chair is defensive waffle, waffle, waffle. No wonder some people think the BBC is not fit for purpose. It's sad.
Village Post Offices are often a lifeline in local communities so it is really good to know that the alleged culprits are going to trial.
I still think it belongs in Surrey.
Most fingerpost are actually the responsibility of the highway authority. But often they are not maintained, so you are correct, in practice local communities do it.
You can find the location of many other fingerposts in the Milestone Society database www.milestonesociety.co.uk under where are milestones? Or search Bsky or Facebook for #fingerpostfriday.
An important part of the canal network, linking to both the Huddersfield Broad Canal and at Sowerby Bridge to the Rochdale Canal.
Maybe Sadiq Khan should do a deal with Mr Trump to fund his new Bakerloo line extension??
This one in Cleckheaton together with many other fingerposts have been catalogued by The Milestone Society www.milestonesociety.co.uk in its database (Milestone Society National ID: YW_SE1824).
This fingerpost has been recorded in the database of the Milestone Society www.milestonesociety.co.uk with National ID: CU_NY3239B. It's been nicely repainted since our own photo was taken 5 years ago.
An excellent picture. This fingerpost has been recorded in the database of The Milestone Society www.milestonesociety.co.uk under its reference DO_ST8304B
There were a number of reasons why the last government failed including lies and too many changes of leadership. But one of the reasons was that MPs were infighting. Voters don't like it. Now this government is going the same way - no support for the PM and his Chancellor!
π₯ Following a Government announcement last year, local councils will be changing
π¬ This could mean fewer councils, streamlined services, and different ways of making decisions

A valiant try in the House of Commons this evening Chris but I fear that your government's Planning and Infrastructure Bill is determined to trash the environment.
And do I suspect that Bedfordshire wants to build its overspill in North Herts.? There is much that needs a critical eye on the Planning and Infrastructure Bill, not only for North Herts. but especially for its potential impact on the Oxford-Cambridge Arc.
