Praise for Mouth
The voice of Mouth is confident in its moves, sometimes breath-stopping in its leaps, by turns despairing and lusty, deeply funny, and-always— restoratively human.
-Sandra Beasley, author of Made to Explode: Poems
Amorak Huey's Mouth is an exploration-sometimes gentle, sometimes raucous-of one of the fundamental forces of nature: desire.... If we must crave and end, and if we must do it in this particular moment of human and geologic time-and, of course, we must-how lucky we are to have Mouth as our companion.
-Molly Spencer, author of Invitatory
If it is possible to make a guitar amp for the soul, to hear what moon, river, barn, and paramour all desire of each other, Amorak Huey has done it in Mouth. Each line is electric, illuminating poems that extend their metaphors, believing to endure in language is to make love endure.
—Steven Leyva, Author of The Opposite of Cruelty

That's lovely -- it's how our communities should feel. I always think of myself as Alabama-poet-adjacent.

If you weren't able to snag a signed copy of There Is News Along The Ohio River at AWP & want one, hmu! Two readings & a signing last week & sweet messages from folx who’ve read it so far have been super positive. Thanks to those of you who've read, purchased, or said something nice about it or me.

Now that you're back from AWP or recovered from your AWP fomo, remember that we're open for submissions until the 15th! We would particularly love to see more visual art and non-fiction/essay work!

But if you want to subvert form, you *do* need to know, like, if you want to subvert the *police,* you have to know the underlying mechanics of their communication in order to change it.

Douglas Kearney remade my brain in Baltimore with a single metaphor. He said, If you want to break form, you don’t need to know shit. You can take a monkey wrench to a cop car and break it, knowing nothing about it.

"Human writing often includes some clunky phrases, like this passage from Cormac McCarthy's Blood Meridian, caused by the author's aversion to punctuation: 'As well ask men what they think of stone.'"
This is the stupidest g.d. thing I have read all day.

REMEMBRANCE
We must answer each question
with another question.
We must erase our first sorrow.
How shall we hope?
We must hope.
Do you remember the prayer we said bent over, the giving of body to ground?
We must shape ourselves
first to shadow and then to infinite, the wait of such hunger in every cell.
No matter the hours.
I'll tell you everything. I'll tell you the silence.

[The dream says it’s more stripper] by Zoë Ryder White
"You bring the tea cake, the sweet demeanor."
"See how it compensates?
It gets sloppy. It spills
down its bra. It’s sticky. It howls.
Milkweed. Remember?
You’ll be enmeshed soon."

Bromo Seltzer clock tower rises into the fog
The Domino Sugars sign reflects red in the water of the harbor

We sold 175 books! Our bags were light! THANK YOU to our amazing authors, friends of the press, and folks who stopped by to chat 📚💙 We couldn’t do this without our community. What a joy y’all are! Seriously, every kind word means the world to us. Y’all made our AWP!

A fellow passenger just told the gate attendant, “If that happens, I’ll have to turn into OJ Simpson.”
Pretty sure they were talking about sprinting through the airport like in the Hertz commercial from the ‘70s but also pretty sure that “turn into OJ Simpson” means something else now.
