🌟fan account🌟 In one sense, yes, I am writing a book about anthropocentrism in early modern England for Routledge and here for scholarly vibes but in a real & much more accurate sense I yearn for silliness.

The picture shows a piece of limestone with a drawing of a mouse sitting in front of a table of offerings, smelling the fragrance of a lotus flower which she holds in her hand. Opposite of the table is a cat, holding a fan.

A charming #Egyptian drawing of a #cat acting as a servant to a #mouse. Drawings of animals acting as people were meant as satire of the society and politics.
Dating 13th/12th century BC, probably from Deir el-Medina, #Egypt.

The zebra in this painting belonged to Shah Abbas of Persia who was born 27 Jan 1571.

It was presented to him by the Mughal emperor Jahangir in the early 1620s. (Victoria & Albert Museum, London

It's (not) funny because this is what was said to me word for word about a career in the performing arts so ultimately I gave up and did a PhD..........

Just putting it out there, while I still have the privilege of a Fellowship for next 6 months, that if early modern ECRs need me to read cover letters, funding apps, article drafts, book proposals, etc, I am happy to take some of these on (with the proviso that I will reach capacity at some point!)

Reminds of the time a colleague said he was "disappointed in me" that I hadn't read Jordan Peterson so I couldn't comprehensively understand whether or not what he was a bad person.

Me to me as I spot at least two mistakes on a journal article I just submitted even though I did my best to proofread it really hard because I full-well know just how bad I at proofreading

Woodcut illustration of a hunter with a large dog. However, the hunter stands with his back to the viewer and looks back over his shoulder, drawing an unexpected level of attention to his slim build and long legs. He raises a wine flask to his face, drawing further attention to his shoulders.

- And have you prepared the woodcut of the hunter with his dog?

- Yep, all here boss

- And it's just a regular woodcut of a hunter with his dog, yes?

- Yeah yeah sure nothing sexy and coquettish about this hunter with extra emphasis on the back and legs and a dainty little finger absolutely not.

Illustration of a fish that is supposed to look like a bishop. It stands on two legs and lifts three fingers as in a greeting whilst grinning in a relaxed way. From: The Workes of that famous Chirurgion Ambrose Parey, 1634, Lib.25, p. 1002.

See, what happens when you're not in academia circles full time and out of the loop is that you miss cfps for conferences like this which look sick AF & you literally have work on nonhuman resistance and (in)justice in the book project

Positively frothing with FOMO 😭 looks incredible!
