Reporting in the Star Tribune this very week contradicts this guy. Current immigration detention is not bound by the law, and does not meet the basic obligations to provide food, shelter, and medical care.
You cannot avoid holocaust analogies forever, else what was the point of learning from it?
Rep. Mohamud Noor: ICE has stopped me in my own neighborhood. They've detained US citizens in front of me while I was begging them to let them go. My kids' schools went into lockdown because ICE was outside.
"Nothing is normal anymore."
ICE isnβt just targeting the Twin Cities. Thereβs horror stories in Mankato, Willmar and across Minnesota. Immigration attorneys are still getting hundreds of calls every day from every corner of the state.
ICE out now.
The basic fallacy in chasing votes by being "tough on immigration" is that the modal American's position on the issue is "Deport the Bad ones and keep the Good ones," and they alone know who is which, and that simply does not translate into workable policy. So this kind of gestapo stuff (1/2)
"hello, I would like A^{-1}U(VA^{-1}U + C^{-1})^{-1}VA^{-1} apples please"
They have played me for an absolute fool
Rep Nolan West: Let's be honest here. Governor Walz and Mayor Frey are incapable of stopping the mob even if they wanted to. With that in mind, there are two options. The first: The federal government enacts a level of violence that we haven't seen in over a century to restore order. The second: The federal government ends Operation "Metro Surge" and allows the pent-up fury to dissipate. I don't even see that as a choice. Regardless of the rule of law or enforcing immigration law, I care about the actual human beings involved. It's clear that Operation "Metro Surge" is causing more harm than good. It puts law enforcement officers' lives at risk and it feeds the chaos destroying our state. Yes, our state is crumbling because those leaders refused to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement, but the fact remains: this must end.
It's incredible to see such an explicit acknowledgement of the decision forced by effective civil resistance by the very people it's trying to pressure.
They hate that their hand is forced, but now even some Rs want ICE out. There's no better sign that resistance works.
He was legally observing
He was helping other legal observers
He was helping other potential victims
He was not brandishing a gun
May Alex Prettiβs memory be a blessing
Right you don't dismantle the Stasi because you have disagreements about policing and security, you dismantle the Stasi because it's the fucking Stasi.
There are tens of thousands of cases of this in any statewide election (the DFL estimates its 2024 field campaign swung 20,000 votes) so it's very easy to find an example for a news story, but that's still only 0.5% of the electorate and it saturates quickly
Several of my friends were shocked the first time I used the word "liberal" to describe myself. They had never met someone my age who labeled themselves that way, only seen it as a punching bag
It's a shame such a foundational, powerful, and liberating ideology has been so blenderized online
Having seen several abductions up close, it is really hard to convey how much the thing theyβre doing is roaming in military convoys until they see someone who is alone and isnβt white, and then jumping out in large numbers, pulling them into a van, and screeching off, all in 90 seconds or so.
All this amounts to an existential threat against the Somali community, but attaching an all-encompassing conspiracy to it obscures the political dynamics that cause this, rather than clarifying them
It really is so hard to accept the banality of evil
There was no meeting of The Bad People to plan the persecution of Somalis. Streamers could make a quick buck, R politicians score cheap points, no one wants to oppose Trump, and awful people exist willing to follow hateful rhetoric with violence
Ethnonationalism is as bad as it is universal; it is as wrong to kill an Israeli who fought in the IDF as it is to kill a Palestinian civilian who ideologically or even materially supports Hamas
It was interacting with genuinely vile beliefs about Palestinians from religious and moral giants in my life that sold me on this.
Believing the world is out to get you will never lead anywhere good, nor can holding the ethnic grievances of previous generations.
October-7th and what followed have radicalized me very hard against ethnonationalism. Just legions of people on every side who should and absolutely do know better saying βok but [attrocity] is good when itβs us thoβ and being taken seriously for some reason. Fuck your blood and fuck your soil.
agree (tho a lesser version of this is true for his interlocutors whose brains did not prepare them for the opportunity to rip the social contract without immediate consequences)
Man, this whole point just depresses me and makes me want to get off bluesky
Donβt infantilise the man! If you send 300k relatively well-informed tweets about politics and policy, you have the mental capacity to step back and examine if your posting habits actually serve the end-goal and structural cohesion of your political project
yes, but while he describes his posting efforts as standing up to the incoherent mob (often true) the functional result is less that anyone is ideologically swayed away from brigading, and more that leftists and liberals are incited to be more mad at each other, leaving neither better off
Stancil is icked out by charity/campaign mingling, some litmus test on Palestine, others freak at running pro-lifers in red states. All expressions of defensible values!
But you gotta weigh that real values debate against the harm of the circular firing squad which manifests with every Stancil post
Right, and I guess thatβs the problem isnβt it?
Stancil wants to defeat fascism at any cost, except the things he finds too icky, and hey, same! Thatβs pretty much the position of everyone on the left these days, but you gotta be humble enough to be chill about that line with coalition members
Arenβt you the vibes-first guy? Like, I agree this is not an effective use of charitable or campaign funds, but if it gives candidates a more in-touch veneer then who cares right?
I donβt know if itβll work in this case, could just as easily backfire, but Iβm pro-experimentation
Youβre not getting out of today without me posting this: vimeo.com/97189077
I think this one even escaped containment. I know people irl who think to become a billionaire you have to break so many eggs that literally eradicating Polio canβt make up for it
too busy being rage-baited on X to successfully rage-bait on bluesky
legality of deployment is hinging on whether federal law enforcement is actually inhibited, and generally courts found it wasnβt bc LAPD was able to control crowds
imo if MPD stopped doing crowd control theyβd be very likely to deploy the guard AND courts would be much more likely to find it legal
