So China has stockpiled about 3 months worth of oil. Their investment in EV technology is displacing a ton of oil use. Renewable energy is still low but China has 6x the capacity of the USA. Someone was way better prepared here than the USA for this, yet the USA started this.

Alejandro Medina focused on wife's release from ICE custody - Nashville Banner
Alejandro Medina reflects on life with with his wife, Nashville Noticias journalist Estefany RodrΓguez, and works to get her released from ICE custody,
"The agents knew Alejandro and Estefanyβs routine, that they went to the same gym around the same time every day."
Devastating and beautifully told, by @mikeiereiland.bsky.social at @nashvillebanner.bsky.social:

For an upcoming story, I'd like to hear from people who have had an encounter with a stranger recording them on Meta's Ray-Ban smart glasses. If that's you or you can pass along this request to someone else who has experienced this, I'm at miles_klee@wired.com or millionbear.44 on Signal. Thanks!

Flexport's Ryan Petersen says we're seeing weird, second-order effects in freight disruption -- like a 55% increase in shipping rates this week "in the Vietnam-US sea lane, of all things."

At ~$1 billion/day, the US has spent as much on the war in Iran in ten days as the entire FY25 budget for the National Science Foundation ($10 billion).
Trump's FY26 budget request for the agency declined to $3.9 billion, due to a "realignment of resources in a constrained fiscal environment."

1) March isn't even halfway over yet.
2) ICE activity has been trickling upward since last week, with more sightings yesterday and already this morning.
This story just didn't need to be published? Maybe they'll surge and maybe they won't, but reporters offer no insight one way or the other.

China never ended testing.
They still have the infamous APP which allows them to trace, for assist with the notification to the user to do testing.
They prescribe Azvudine (a failed HIV drug), which seems to act as a post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP).
(things everyone else should have done).

I value empathy & Iβm finding it challenging currentlyβ¦with all the research we now have access to, thinking ahead 15 or 20yrs, what are science-literate people planning to tell their kidsβ¦sorry about your lifetime of illness, but people made fun so we went maskless?! Sorry for the snark.

THREAD: I got laid off from NYMag/Vulture after 14 years. The family lost 75% of income + medical. Now mzs.press bookstore, once a side project. is do-or-die for Judith & I. I feel weird telling you this because others are doing much worse. But if you could like or share this, we'd be so grateful!

Restricted Cubic Splines Displaying Associations Between Aldosterone-Renin Ratio and Risk of Cardiovascular Outcomes; includes five graphs of ratio vs. incidence of AF, ischemic stroke, HF, MI, & composite outcome. Each graph shows an aHR value.
Higher aldosterone-renin ratios in older adults were linked to increased risk of atrial fibrillation and ischemic stroke, supporting the aldosterone pathway as a target for cardiovascular disease prevention.

Anyway if you're serious about dismantling bigotry and building a better world, I highly recommend reading White Fragility by Robin DiAngelo. And support the art of marginalized creators in any way you can (buy, review, request at libraries, rec to friends, vote in awards etc) 4/4

Jamie Raskin and Joe Neguse just exposed a massive corruption scandal. DHS handed $143M to a "company" with no website and no HQ, tied directly to Noemβs cronies. Follow the money:

A photo of a large cumulonimbus cloud over a flat, grassy landscape during sunset. The cloud displays vibrant shades of orange and yellow illuminated by sunlight, contrasting with darker gray clouds below and a blue sky above. Zooming in above the towering storm, you'll see a planet flying from left to right.
Yesterday's storm chase along the TX/OK border didn't play out as I had hoped, but that's not too surprising for early season setups. Still, there's almost always at least a bit of a consolation prize. This struggling storm painted by the setting Sun was yesterday's. #Photography

The advice to keep trying and apply more than once is applicable everywhere. Sometimes you'll want to pitch something brand new, but sometimes reworking the idea can work.
