Finally I can join #FluorescenceFriday as a theorist π.
This is a DNA-PAINT recording of E-Cadherin and F-actin in Drosophila embryonic epidermis. You can see E-cadherin clusters and their counterparts across junctions. Cover in @biophysj.bsky.social . doi.org/10.1016/j.bp... #devbio #cellbio

If you're at #Dros26 and are interested in how cells change shape & move during morphogenesis & how different classic cadherins influence different cell behaviors, check out the talk by @saraheclark.bsky.social in Cell Biology: Cytoskeleton, Organelles, & Trafficking II Sat 9:15 π§ͺ
Current NIH leadership want you to think they are using rigorous, consistent & scientific processes to screen studies to align them with agency priorities.
But the process that they have put down on paper is a sham.
Itβs important to know NIH is not following its own guidance. Hereβs why:

Dear SDB Members, I am writing to clarify how to fully comply with the 2024 NIH Public Access Policy without paying the current $3,910 Article Processing Fee for Open Access for your paper accepted in Developmental Biology. Attached is a diagram showing the process. Once you receive the letter of acceptance for your paper in Developmental Biology, upload the accepted and unformatted version of your manuscript to the NIH Manuscript Submission system, NIHMS (nihms.nih.gov). Select β0 monthsβ for the embargo. Once approved, you will receive a PCMID number for your manuscript. Your manuscript will then be publicly accessible, satisfying the NIH Public Access Policy requirement. If you choose the βOpen Accessβ option, you will pay the $3,910 Article Processing Fee. If you choose the βSubscriptionβ option, you do not pay any fee. Developmental Biology has traditionally not charged authors for any fees as it was subsidized by institutional subscriptions. Royalties from Developmental Biology's institutional subscriptions also support SDBβs programs. SDB encourages you to ask your library to subscribe to Developmental Biology. Save your funds and support the SDB, while also fully complying with the NIH Public Access Policy! Yours truly, Richard Behringer, PhD
Another Society journal doing the right thing! @socdevbio.bsky.social confirms that upon acceptance in @devbiol.bsky.social authors can upload the accepted and unformatted version of your manuscript to the NIH Manuscript Submission system, satisfying NIH and making it available to all
