I am not sure what to do with them either. I think maybe an acquired taste? They have a taste that I haven't quite decided if I like it or not or could get used to or not. I planted the tree as a test to see if it would grow well and fruit here and it does. So now what to do with it...LOL
No worries, in my lifetime I have been through many volcanic eruptions so I know the drill fairly well. I even have indoor air filtration and lots of filtering masks in case the air quality gets bad.
Here's a piece of tephra that is about five inches across but only weighs about 9 grams. This was found in the yard.
Yes the video I posted lets you hear it pelting the lanai and metal roof of the house over the background roar of the eruption. Just turn the volume up. We have chunks all over the place. We are about to have a major Kona Storm hit tomorrow night which with torrential rains should wash it off.
Volcanic tephra is very very light in weight and gritty and airy at the same time. This piece fell on our lanai and is the size of a golf ball. It doesn't even register one gram on a kitchen scale.
By Kent's request (as he has a culinary thing he wants to try) I harvested 9 lbs of tamarillos. There are many more on the tree. We'll see what he makes out of them. All of this while the volcanic tephra falls from the sky.
To keep tephra that is falling from the sky from scratching the windows in the truck when cleanup time comes, the truck was covered with two tarps--one over the other.
The dull roar in the background is the sound of the eruption. The pelting sound is the sound of the gritty tephra falling.
So the volcano started erupting this morning around 9:17 am. This is the view from the lanai. Unfortunately the Trade Winds have failed as a large low pressure system has formed to the west bringing winds from the south. The tephra is already falling here as a result. It happens even if rarely here.

No Dementia Donny and MAGA freaks, Iran didn't kill 175 young school girls. YOU DID!
In contrast to the coverup of the EPSTEIN crimes here in America, there are ongoing investigations in the UK, France, Turkey, Poland, Latvia & Lithuania that is sure to expose his central, filthy role in the largest crimes against humanity case in world history. #AccountabilityIsComing
I completely agree! Everything about this regime is pure evil.
Hi Jaye, Hope your morning is going well!
You too Brenda!
Power outage last night. Wouldn't have realized it except that we lost internet as it instantly switched to battery backup. The island power grid=not always reliable hence we have solar panels+battery backup. It was time to go to bed anyway. But power and internet are back on this early am.
Fortunately, in the tropics, this is a meaningless ritual which isn't practiced here since there is always around 12 hours of day and 12 hours of night year round with only small variation "winter" to summer.
Good morning Brenda and blue crew! Beautiful location you picked as always!
Yesterday in the late afternoon in the heart of the Pacific...Of course, the calm before the storm as major weather is moving in mid week with possibly torrential rains and flooding along with it.

Here's Ash...another island cat rescue that could hardly walk and was half starved to death. He's a seriously happy cat now even though he is giving a bit of that "Garfield" look in the photo.
