Excited to share our new paper in @natcomms.nature.com We synthesize causal discovery & inference approaches across traditions (regression adjustment, quasi-expts, SEMs, Granger causality, convergent cross-mapping, and more) into a unified workflow for ecologists. www.nature.com/articles/s41...

New paper on global change impacts on insects, out in GEB🦋🌍

Climate change and urbanisation act synergistically: butterfly declines are stronger under warming in urban environments.

Species traits help explain heterogeneous responses.

Increasing synchronicity of global extreme fire weather Increasing synchronicity of global extreme fire weather constrains fire suppression coordination and exacerbates air pollution.

Las condiciones meteorológicas que favorecen los incendios forestales se están produciendo cada vez más simultáneamente, tanto dentro de un mismo país como entre países a nivel internacional:

An arboreal camera-trap image form the Brazilian Amazon rainforest. An animal is detected by TropiCam-AI, which analyzes its features and tries to determine what species it is.

TropiCam-AI analyzes the prompted image, and classifies it at the species level as a black spider monkey. Users can decide to let the model predict at the taxonomic level that achieves the highes confidence and accuracy, or force predictions at the desired taxonomic level.

Plot of the burn selectivity in August 2025 for the NW-IP: black dots show the fraction of BA for each vegetation class. “Pinus” and “Quercus” include natural, semi-natural, naturalized and plantations of native species. The red triangles indicate the presence of each class in the study area (i.e., what fraction of that vegetation class would have burned if fires were equally affecting all vegetation classes). Black error bars are 95% confidence intervals estimated through a conservative leave-one-fire-out jackknife.
