That sounds delightful. I used to work in a natural history museum and there are plenty of spooky things there.

A guy in a shiny and colorful insect costume; mostly green and purple, with transparent plastic bubbles for eyes, pointy spear-like hands, long antennae, shimmery green clothes which I think are a Creature from the Black Lagoon costume probably, fuzzy purple boots, etc.

I'm gonna post some of my favorite costumes from this year's Mardi Gras shamble with Cryptique! Dav was a stunning insectoid thing! 🧡

When I give talks about the exploitation of GLAM by the AI industry I’m always asked β€œhow can we defend ourselves from bots scraping our metadata?” I have no idea. That’s a question for an engineer. What I can and do say is that we shouldn’t be supporting this industry in the first place.

I remember a scandal a few years ago when some federal agency was found to be spending about $15 per attendee at a meeting where coffee and donuts were served.

I keep thinking how the USA & probably the rest of the world would likely be so much better off if we had only continued and built upon the Carter era movement to develop alternative energy sources.

THREAD: I got laid off from NYMag/Vulture after 14 years. The family lost 75% of income + medical. Now mzs.press bookstore, once a side project. is do-or-die for Judith & I. I feel weird telling you this because others are doing much worse. But if you could like or share this, we'd be so grateful!

Glenn truly does some of the best Kickstarters. I hope you both might work something out. I’m so sorry you’ve been laid off, Matt.

A neighbor was hired by VOA for her expertise in Eastern European languages a few months before T.’s 2nd term, and was almost immediately laid off when his administration started. She only recently found a new job. The treatment of VOA staff and its mission has been shameful.

It’s delightfully whacky stuff. I’m so glad it’s well-preserved. Thank you for sharing the photos.

Also worth noting for the β€˜everything is online’ crowd that the numbers of archives being destroyed means that an increasing proportion cannot ever be online.

I like that, a surreal and amusing idea which works grammatically too. There’s a bunch of Fish Crows in my neighborhood and I love to hear their chatter.

People keep telling me they're "not good enough to submit" - I say, we don't gatekeep skill levels.

Sure, I use the books to scout for artists to hire/forward projects to, but our goal is to *encourage people to celebrate nature*.

This is why I insist on having kid & amateur artists each season.

The Smithsonian’s Natural History Museum had a forensic anthropology exhibition a few years ago & included the skull of a young man who had a tooth infection that ate away part of his jaw. What a horrifying way to die.
