A guy in a shiny and colorful insect costume; mostly green and purple, with transparent plastic bubbles for eyes, pointy spear-like hands, long antennae, shimmery green clothes which I think are a Creature from the Black Lagoon costume probably, fuzzy purple boots, etc.

When I give talks about the exploitation of GLAM by the AI industry I’m always asked “how can we defend ourselves from bots scraping our metadata?” I have no idea. That’s a question for an engineer. What I can and do say is that we shouldn’t be supporting this industry in the first place.

A neighbor was hired by VOA for her expertise in Eastern European languages a few months before T.’s 2nd term, and was almost immediately laid off when his administration started. She only recently found a new job. The treatment of VOA staff and its mission has been shameful.

The Smithsonian’s Natural History Museum had a forensic anthropology exhibition a few years ago & included the skull of a young man who had a tooth infection that ate away part of his jaw. What a horrifying way to die.
