I also think people are kinda projecting their yearning for a simpler time onto RE without even knowing it. If Capcom had no desire to change or improve what they have, we'd probably never see our favorites again.
Capcom and change have been married since RE4 imo. I think at first, I hated them changing things and then one day was like well honestly I would hate it if I made some characters decades ago and tried to change things now that I'm better at art/story telling only to have people freak out.

Not sure how much of the game you saw but there's a scene where she reaches out and says "Mom" that made me think at first "Cute that she finds him motherly" but the closer reality is probably that her mom was always on the move, paranoid, and likely even tough. Surviving Racoon City and all.
Yea I'm sure he has like an on and off mode when it comes to getting ready to kill vs being around family. Then again, the alcoholism (at least that's how they portray him in Vendetta) may not have made him a fun dad at all.
I know we only got to see Alyssa for a brief moment in 9 but with them constantly moving around and Alyssa's secretive nature about things, she had to have come off guarded in some way (my opinion). But also who wouldn't have a shadow over them after surviving Raccoon City?
