the moment the true purpose of disney star wars became fully clear to me was when i realized that the name "grogu" was chosen because it could be respeechered out of weird creepy CG composite luke skywalker's mouth based on him once saying the words "rogue group"

When the big breaking news finally comes, before they even have the chance to lower the flags to half-mast, the entire world will be like...

The political effects of X's feed algorithm https://doi.org/10.1038/s41586-026-10098-2 Received: 16 December 2024 Accepted: 4 January 2026 Published online: 18 February 2026 Open access • Check for updates Germain Gauthier,5, Roland Hodler?5, Philine Widmer35 & Ekaterina Zhuravskaya3,4,5 m Feed algorithms are widely suspected to influence political attitudes. However, previous evidence from switching off the algorithm on Meta platforms found no political effects'. Here we present results from a 2023 field experiment on Elon Musk's platform X shedding light on this puzzle. We assigned active US-based users randomly to either an algorithmic or a chronological feed for 7 weeks, measuring political attitudes and online behaviour. Switching from a chronological to an algorithmic feed increased engagement and shifted political opinion towards more conservative positions, particularly regarding policy priorities, perceptions of criminal investigations into Donald Trump and views on the war in Ukraine. In contrast, switching from the algorithmic to the chronological feed had no comparable effects. Neither switching the algorithm on nor switching it off significantly affected affective polarization or self-reported partisanship. To investigate the mechanism, we analysed users' feed content and behaviour. We found that the algorithm promotes conservative content and demotes posts by traditional media. Exposure to algorithmic content leads users to follow conservative political activist accounts, which they continue to follow even after switching off the algorithm, helping explain the asymmetry in effects. These results suggest that initial exposure to X's algorithm has persistent effects on users' current political attitudes and account-following behaviour, even in the absence of a detectable effect on partisanship.
A new paper shows that less than 2 months of exposure to Twitter’s algorithmic feed significantly shifts people’s political views to the right.
Moving from chronological feed to the algorithmic feed also increases engagement.
This is one of the most concerning papers I’ve read in awhile.
yes, the wheels of justice are slow. agonizingly, excruciatingly slow. and oftentimes they miss or go off the tracks entirely. in fact most of the time. but occasionally, very infrequently, that big wheel of justice delivers theoretical remuneration for a handful of vested business interests

The image announces the 300th Battle of Comm Ave at the 73rd Annual Dunkin' Men's Beanpot on February 9 at TD Garden. It mentions the historic rivalry, starting 108 years ago on February 6, 1918, when the two schools first met at Boston Arena.
This image features a comparison between two college hockey figures: Jerry York (Boston College '67) and Jack Parker (Boston University '68). It notes they skated against each other 5 times and coached against each other 82 times, including 16 times in the Beanpot tournament. The image includes historical photos of the two in action and portraits of them in coaching settings.
Is there anything better than BC-BU in the Beanpot Championship?
Well, yes...
Good luck to our Eagles against the Terriers tonight at the Garden! 🦅🏒

A post on threads from user stephens_bens. It reads 'I'll always remember an interview with Steve Buscemi on Bulleye, Jesse Thorn asked him "As an actor with many decades of varied and outstanding roles across your career, does it ever bother you that one of the things you will most be remembered for is a 3-second gif in which you're wearing a backwards baseball cap and carrying a skateboard?" And without missing a beat, Buscemi replied "I'm carrying *two* skateboards." And you know what? He is.' Below that is a screen cap of Buscemi's famous "fellow kids" moment.
I never noticed this either.

This rules. Kick Bovino out of every fucking bar in the country.
That goal by Chinakhov was the 15,000th regular season goal scored by Pens. Only the Original Six teams have more.
Spend your life doing something, and things get blurry.
It wasn’t until Sidney Crosby watched a tribute to the 2016 Penguins team on Saturday that some of the moments he’d thought were lost to time recrystallized in high definition.
So did the tears.

This judge does the thing quoting the Declaration of Independence at the Trump regime then adds for good measure: "Observing human behavior confirms that for some among us, the perfidious lust for unbridled power & the imposition of cruelty in its quest know no bounds & are bereft of human decency."
The UK's Independent gives the film one star out of five, saying: "[The] First Lady is a preening, scowling void of pure nothingness in this ghastly bit of propaganda ... Hitting cinemas as the streets of America remain filled with the angry and grieving - with the country on the verge of an irreparable schism - the vulgar, gilded lifestyle of the Trumps makes them look like Marie Antoinette skulking in her cake-filled chateau, or Hermann Göring's staring up at his looted Monet." The publication continued: "The "film" is part propaganda, sure, and part sop to Big Tech companies who require constant regulatory approval for financial manoeuvrings. Even then, it is bad. It will exist as a striking artefact - like The Birth of a Nation or Triumph of the Will - of a time when Americans willingly subordinated themselves to a political and economic oligopoly."
