Stereotypes and The Assumptions They Make - Hannah's Hope Stereotypes and the assumptions they make often cause harm or mislead people. Not all disabled people are going to become Paralympians.

The following words written in black on a white background: So pleased to say I passed my ACCA Audit and Assurance (F8) exam. There is a pale pink border.

Thrilled I passed my Audit and Assurance exam so am now technically part qualified.
😀

Alot of hard work, but I did it!

9 down 4 and ethics to go!

Starmer still faces Labour anger over risk of ‘two-tier’ disability benefits Rebel MPs will try to lay new amendment on Monday giving colleagues a chance to delay bill despite No 10 concessions

NEW: Disabled people already on PIP will be judged by the original criteria when up for reassessment, The Guardian can confirm. But those that come off the benefit and then later reapply will be treated as new and scored by the tougher rules. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

Life Post Injury-20 Years On - Hannah's Hope 20 years is a long time. Two decades. Part of me sees 20 years on- life post injury as a positive, and part of me still struggles.

"How Did we Cope? I don’t know. You just have to keep going. 1 step (literally) at a time, putting 1 foot in front of the other. Getting through each day. You either keep going or u dont. Luckily, we chose to keep going. All of us.": buff.ly/cfVLEJc

What Does Disability Look Like?  - Hannah's Hope You don't 'look' disabled. But what does disability look like? There isn't a 'look'. We don't go around with a sticker on our head!

"Individuals with #InvisibleIllnesses often don’t think of themselves as #disabled, until their #illness or #disability is having a profound impact on their life, as they feel like an #imposter or not ‘disabled enough’ to call themselves disabled.": buff.ly/GhOn2Fc

Disability and Dating - Hannah's Hope What would I say about being chronically ill/disabled? How would I include it? If I do say something people will just immediately bypass me as they won't want to go out with a wheelchair user. Alternatively,...

Happy International Wheelchair Day ♿️

My wheelchair gives me: freedom, independence and is a passport to the world plus so much more.

Surely this can only be a good thing?

I told her she may not get GCSEs, A-levels and a degree but it is not everything. I told her I was currently studying to be a Chartered Accountant and worked part-time.

I told her how much I had improved. She was pleased, but couldn't believe the journey.

I told her that as long as she was disabled she would experience exclusion and not to let it upset her although it is hard.

I told her I had not figured out love, met anyone or had children but I still hoped to. I told her I was a Godmother to 4 gorgeous children.

I told her she would speak at the Houses of Parliament and be one of the 100 most influential disabled people in the UK. That she would make a difference and achieve a lot.

The shy Hannah couldn't believe she would do that.

I met my younger self for coffee today. Written on a photo of a young Hannah aged 15 years sitting in a manual wheelchair.

A scared 15 year old. I told her things will get worse before they get better.

I told her she has the best parents and brother and she said she knew. I said no you don't, as the support they are going to give you is a lifeline. I told her she will experience so much, much of it testing and she will spend 4 years in hospital and 1.5 years in a neurological centre 70 miles from home. I told her her leg would break into 5 pieces in hospital and she would have to have two major surgeries for it. Her eyes widened in shock.

I told her, as well as her own health, she will endure insurmountable loss of her dear brother. She looked devastated and we both wept. It was the hardest thing to tell her.

I told her loosing Ben will not get easier but you will learn to 'live' with it. That some days you will manage and some you will not.

I told her her she will eventually describe herself as disabled rather than unwell. Although often use the words chronic illness.
