I remain bullish on personalized cancer vaccines. great to see this for TNBC!

๐๐ ugh the good old days
The best one is still when is it ok to send emails
I am currently living the dream (eating loaded nachos and drinking a glass of sauv blanc in a hotel lobby by myself while I decompress by reading a new fantasy book after talking science all day) AMA
This is a fascinating paper that reveals defined and clear mechanism for a phenomenon that for some seemed unbelievable- the up regulation of genes paralogous to those with specific types of inactivating mutations. This is called transcriptional adaptation 1/ www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...
wow I loveeee to find a new fantasy series with Complicated Rules (just started The Will of the Many)
one of my favorite papers recently -- obsessed with @alexholehouse.bsky.social & team's work!
Pleased to share the final version of this behemoth of a paper, now finally published. I guess I can retire now?

More functional data, many thousands of words removed, and a few other updates from last year's preprint.
my baby is 2 ๐ญ๐ญ being his mom is the absolute best thing in the entire universe ๐ช
With continued uncertainty over federal government support for biomedical research, PhD students are struggling to find labs willing to take on new students, @jonathanwosen.bsky.social reports.
New students are the future of US science. www.statnews.com/2026/01/30/f...
We are thrilled that our study on the evolution of gene regulation in mammalian cerebellum development โ led by @ioansarr.bsky.social, @marisepp.bsky.social and @tyamadat.bsky.social, in collaboration with @steinaerts.bsky.social โ is now out in @ScienceMagazine! www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...
oh yeah that's an automatic leave situation. we only go at 5:30 and immediately order French fries as we are being seated lol
Original post was deleted but this was in response to Apple TV buying the rights to the Cosmere ๐ฑ
omg huge news
10ยฐ and snowing in Boston and I've already seen 2 people out running and 1 guy with a giant iced Dunks
going out to dinner with your 2 year old is actually totally cool and fine if you understand that, like a bomb, they are going to detonate in exactly 48 minutes. you better be outta there not one second later
Oooo this sounds great!
(also my ipad is now so old that it won't let me update netflix, meaning i can't use it to watch love is blind on airplanes, which is a very important part of my life, so i WILL be getting a new one)
do any of you read papers primarily on a tablet? if so, what tablet + apps do you use? at some point i transitioned from reading on my laptop to printing papers like an Old, but my desk is becoming a Problem so i'm looking to switch it up
mRNA neoantigen vaccines appear to be working for multiple cancers

hahah word. tbt to when our grad student recruitment class of 2016 got snowed in during interview weekend of boston's snowpocalypse year...
it will never not be funny to me that we as a society have decided that interview season should be in the dead of winter, when ice-snow-tornado-monsoons can bring the nation's air travel to a halt unpredictably
Pregnancy loss is common in humans, and chromosomal abnormalities are the leading cause. Using genetic data from ~140,000 IVF embryos, we show that maternal variation in meiosis genes influences recombination and aneuploidy risk.

Great overview of the damage to science over the past year.
This shows NIH awarded 24% fewer new research awards in FY2025 vs 2024.
The multiyear funding language in the new LHHS bill means we should expect the same amount of new science this year.

sending it into 2026 ๐ฅฐ
thank you, I hope I can!!
independently funded for my entire PhD and postdoc and now, when I need support, the system is collapsing from under me. can't think too deeply about how my family planning timeline affected these things or I go to a dark place ๐ซ
rarely in my career have I been as stressed as I am now: on the (extremely competitive) faculty job market, with a toddler, trying to get an extension on my K99 so I don't lose my R00, while NIH is stretched thin, grant reviews are delayed, and funding is very scarce.
