Albo’s actions and words show no insight or concern to the Australian Palestinians who have been brutalised by Israel (not to mention the numerous other countries Netenyahu has attacked). How is Herzog a symbol of social healing and connection for them?

This is dangerous as it risks further conflation of being Jewish and being Israeli, and in turn risks more antisemitism

As a critic of Israel I make a big distinction between the two. But I understand many Jews have an affinity to Israel.

By inviting Herzog, Albo has directly and publicly linked Australian Jewry with Israel, and implicitly to the genocidial actions of Israel.

There is a good legal argument he should be arrested not invited.

The symbol of the President of Israel as a form of healing for Australia’s Jewish community muddies the distinction between between Australian Jewry and Israel.
