Chutney will keep, covered in an airtight container and chilled, for 2 weeks. Serve the chutney at room temperature.

Simmer the mixture over medium to medium-high heat, stirring occasionally, for up to 25 minutes or until the berries have burst. The chutney should look like a thickened sauce but still retain some chunkiness.

I’m making our yearly cranberry chutney right now and would like to share the recipe with you. It’s a good one for people who don’t love traditional cranberry sauce or jelly.

It is almost impossible to get your history nonfiction book reviewed in the NYT, WP, or WSJ these days.

I crunched some numbers a while back and nonfiction reviews are only 10% of these sections.

And most of those are reviews of memoirs & political journalism.

Thursday-Friday rain predicted. Hope it pans out. Today's smoke is from a 25-acre fire burning 7 miles west.

That gray cloud that looks like it could be fog? Smoke. From the brush fires burning all over the north shore. We've had no significant rain in months. It smells like ashtrays outside. We see rain on the forecast for the end of the week. Fingers crossed it happens.

The Wenham Museum's fundraising Harvest Dinner was delicious, the 17th century surroundings were charming , and we were seated with 4 fun conversationalists. It was good to be out with good humans building community over excellent food. Support your local cultural institutions!

Thanks to everyone who's followed me back over the past couple of days. Just when I thought Not Another Social, you've made launching fun. I post about writing, food, travel, libraries, cultural interests, and-oh no!-politics. You may see a lot of my dogs. Looking forward to learning from you all.

I think the infighting is inevitable.

They're nominating the worst people to get a reaction. Be aware of it, and continue with your own community building and/or disruption efforts. Don't give them your energy. It's precious. You need it.

I think this is correct. And that's why I'm giving this no attention in favor of community building.
