I am absolutely writing that fic for Meruka at some point... when I stop burying myself in fests and exchanges.
It's all good, I sang the entire thing.
Meruka refuses to acknowledge her mistakes most of the time. Maybe because when she led the Veilguard people kept blaming her for shit that wasn't her fault, I dunno!
"I don't wanna put romances in my RPG because x, y, z."
OK cool fine. Nobody should have to do something they don't want. BUT. You are rejecting an absolutely devoted, positive-leaning fanbase and a LOT of longevity for your game.
Maybe examine if romance rejection is kneejerk sexist bias.
I would just like to say that my week has been immeasurably brightened by your return to Bluesky with your gorgeous art. <3
Late-stage Capitalism pet peeves: Our car's owner's manual does not contain instructions for changing the engine and cabin air filters. We looked up how on Youtube.
$35 and three minutes of our time vs. at least $120 in "parts and labour" for the garage to do it. Fuck off with that.
I finally lost my shit about so-called AIs, LLMs, enshittification & everything fucking evil that @officialgrammarly.bsky.social is doing. I'm fucking furious, and not just about what 1 company has done. An open letter to Grammarly & the rest of the LLM hype machine www.moryan.com/an-open-lett...
Meruka can't stand him. They are fundamentally incompatible people whose good points are very different and bad points are a little too similar. Lucanis and Spite both detest Solas for what he did to her and egg on her dislike.
Tell us how you really feel, Alistair. :D
I mean, I can't afford GDC anyway but also not crossing the border.

Heyo, I'm Becky, a non-binary Canuck running a micro-indie studio creating romance visual novels aimed at women and femmes. #WhatAGameDevLooksLike

What did you dooooo to our beloved assassin?
Meruka de Riva, a Dragon Age elf with strong Antivan features and a LOT of hair.
Do you like drawing hair? Lots of hair? More hair than elf? Meruka is your gal. :D
My PFP is a cartoon me with a Pokemon, so we're not all Dragon Age-based!
Ha ha, mine is even cheaper with his own purchases than he is with mine, so I can't complain too much.
Pretty much my reaction, yeah.
I have felt free to ignore all anti-romance critiques since I read just enough Serious Dude Lit to realize how much of it was just middle-aged men cheating on their wives with nubile 20-somethings. But THAT somehow is a deep commentary on society. Uh huh.
When I see someone slagging people reading Romance, I just assume it's misogyny.
Can it be for other reasons? Of course. Yet when I actually engage with the hater, it usually turns out to be the case.
cannot stress enough that "separate the art from the artist" was meant for private individuals reconciling the art they love with its flawed creators and not meant for the ceo of a company driving a dump truck of money up to a bigot's front porch

It was simply finding my people, so many of whom were harmed by abusive forms of monotheism. I received a calling to pantheism, so my spark away from organized religion was itself a spiritual experience.
Ha ha, same, and it will be my only one because the MASSIVE SPOUSAL SIDEEYE I received...
My very best to you, it's a tough thing to navigate. (My quality of life has improved after moving to the other side of the continent... not why we moved, but a nice side effect. Spouse was always low-contact but lord the holidays were stressful.)
This is driving me nuts in Canada as well. Canadian politicians still pretending the US government is any kind of good-faith actor while meanwhile the entire populace knows better. Who do they think they're fooling?
As somebody who also has emotionally abusive in-laws, there is no should. Y'all don't have to put up with that. I know it's rough if you and your spouse aren't on the same page about contact level, but please don't feel guilty for minimizing contact.
It's just odd to me. We listen to other people speak in first all the time. It's the same thing except this person is fictional. They just wanna tell you their story!
I'm not super worried since I read shit-tons of romantasy and most of it is indie and not super plugged into the big publishing trends. There are soooooo many books!
I continue to be confused by the writing point-of-view discourse going on because I've personally encountered way more people who dislike first-person than vice-versa. I write in both 1st and 3rd limited depending on my goals, so I feel like it's silly to dismiss either out of hand.
I can't grasp the idea that 1st-person is automatically an invitation to self-insert. I usually write characters with strong personalities and specific flaws in 1st-person. You probably don't wanna self-insert that...
It's a rad theory! Dragon Age is ours now!
