Those bumper stickers that say "This car climbed Mt Washington" always annoy me. I want a pair of pants stating this BUTT climbed it.
One of the reasons Camel's Hump over in VT is among my favorites. No access road.

The shutoff valve was completely cosmetic for our clothes washer when we moved in...
Our absolute fave thing to have handy was frozen cinnamon buns. I made a bunch according to King Arthur's instructions for freezing homemade ones. They never tasted better than when starving and sleep-deprived π
For snacks (and food), stuff that's easily consumed with one hand and high in protein and/or carbs (including simple sugars!) will be helpful. It's easy to lose track of when you last ate.
Not sure if they're physically nearby but if so, dropping off some food after a couple days with no expectation of "hanging out" or "playing with the baby" can be super helpful. Otherwise the gift card for food would definitely be appreciated.
Cate Lineberry's book is used as reference material for the series.
An Old Timey Podcast has a 5-part series on Robert Smalls. Highly recommend.
I really liked "The mists of Avalon" when I read it as a YA π’ granted stuff was known about the author at that time but I didn't know (pre-interwebs π΅βπ«) and got the book as a gift secondhand
Where did this come from?
Just got asked if it is true that squirrels can't burp. I think I need another book @danirabaiotti.bsky.social!
Any chance this also involved dust/sneezing? Sometimes vertigo can be an allergy symptom by messing with sinus drainage.
S. commune. Has *thousands* of mating types, researched by Cardy Raper, a scientist with a fascinating life story who has a Wikipedia page as part of the Herculean efforts by Jess Wade (is Jess here??)
Usually for gatherings with GF folks I make toasted nut crusts (luckily we don't have anyone with a nut allergy). Almond goes well with apple IME. My fave is pumpkin with hazelnut crust.

My husband loves taking our kid to the store. He says it's a fundamentally different experience because everyone smiles.
My tiny human has a whale shark stuffy and it's one of their two favorites β€οΈπ¦
I have discovered that special form of parental exhaustion that accompanies potty training. πͺ
It's also no longer a viable option to have a single income household for most people. You need both incomes to stay afloat even WITHOUT kids in many places. So they can mock all they want, it doesn't change the reality that this country is just not affordable.
a canva graphic that says "How it works Step 1: Go to SkypeAScientist.com Step 2: Click βSign Upβ then βScientist Sign Up Formβ Step 3: Tell us about yourself Step 4: Get matched with a classroom Step 5: Connect with the teacher Step 6: Make a kidβs day isn't that great? @SkypeAScientist"

Refreshments of some kind provided by the trainee were definitely an expectation in my program. As if prepping for a committee meeting wasn't already sufficiently anxiety-inducing.... There were definitely last-minute runs to the nearby grocery store by helpful lab mates. So unnecessary.
Maybe committees do different things, but even questions to ask/ who can answer would be helpful. Does student schedule meetings? When? Are they expected to bring refreshments for the committee members, which shouldn't be allowed IMHO but is still expected many places
As someone who was once a graduate student, please also include logistical things. There's a lot of "hidden curriculum" around things like thesis meetings and it would have been super helpful to have something formalized.
I'm an avowed zucchini skeptic, but I tried this last year and loooooove it β€οΈ
My Mom likes to reply to the "this is the IRS and we're sending police to your house" types by saying "does your mother know you scam people for a living? Is she proud of you for being such a scumbag?" And that also tends to really piss them off
Last fall, the First Lego League project was focused on the ocean, so we had a massive number of requests for marine biologists come in to Skype a Scientist. I just got word that this year's theme is archaeology.
Know any archaeologists? tell them we're gonna NEED 'em.

One of those books I *really* wish I could go back and read again for the first time.
This also has me confused. Along with the "lots of hot tubbing with bros" one....
We've started getting kisses back at bedtime π₯Ή just fills your heart right up.
WE DID IT!!!
Thank you SO MUCH to everyone who filled bubbles!
@skypeascientist.bsky.social works because lots of people work together.
Lots of people volunteer.
Lots of people tell their teacher friends.
And lots of people donate!
β€οΈ Thank you to everyone who makes our program possible β€οΈ
