During the pandemic, I had days when I felt I was by myself on a shore drained of the tide, dragging a stick across miles of wet sand. There were also days when I was a boy again, sliding down a snowy hill on a flattened cardboard box. And there were days when I remembered the teacher who made us memorize a poem each week, and when we asked why, she said we might one day find ourselves in a wreck at the side of the road and we would recite these poems to stay alive.

I got it at release, but the only reason I waited so long to read it was because I knew I'd just be pining for the sequel!

I’ve just finished (devoured) The Irresistible Urge to Fall for Your Enemy and am blown away. I giggled, chortled, snorted, snickered, and perhaps even sighed with admiration over several particularly lovely turns of phrase. Readers of DMATMOOBIL will recognize certain similarities, most notably the Highly Competent (and thus Deservedly Arrogant) main characters; the unparalleled banter between the Dashing Dastard, who prides himself on his excellence in Skullduggery and Daring Deeds while utterly unencumbered by morals, and the Paragon of Healing who wields scalpel, magical seith, and her sharp tongue with equally incisive brilliance. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find these familiarly snarky Persons—pardon me, Protagonists—in a story and world full of new beats, new characters (including several unforgettable capital-C Characters), and a new setting much more interesting and intelligently developed than a certain Other-Which-Shall-Not-Be-Named. (I do have a soft spot for an alternate-history magical UK setting and etymology nerdiness; the combination of these elements immediately earned my undying appreciation.) (Also, though the writing never bludgeons you over the head—or worse, the back of the neck—with this fact, nearly everyone is queer.) I’m eagerly (impatiently, imploringly) awaiting the conclusion of the duology, and will undoubtedly be rereading Irresistible Urge for another round of Knightly’s Fortified Enemies-to-Lovers (a trademark combination of cheeky banter, unforgettable characters, lush environmental descriptions, twisty intrigue, and the potential to reduce the reader to a gasping pile of giggles).

this is like going from a cold shower to a warm bath compared to the DEARTH of femme SW character merch I saw at ECCC yesterday. legos of every man who’s ever picked up a lightsaber, BB-8 stickers in ~18 costumes including local sports jerseys, but only two glimpses of Rey fanart the entire con. 🙄

Something I really love about Rey in the Sequel Trilogy is that, having grown up on Jakku, she's always getting a kick out of and appreciating the beauty of the different planets, biomes, and cultures she encounters during her travels.

I get yelled at for saying this but for many hundreds of years people went to university not to get diplomas or be employable but because immersion in the humanities was considered foundational to a good life, and school must return to its original purpose: the joy of learning.

speaking of versioning, I'll note that you can make a duplicate of a draft, which is helpful for having a v1 with all comments visible and then a v2 where I can resolve comments as they're addressed. merging has been easy, and also preserves all the comments and changes in the draft view.

as far as I can see, the answer is no—you'd just edit the draft (which you *can* do in the "compare changes" view) back to the original to reject the change. in this sense it's much more like a version control system than editing software.

at our mild level of revisions with only a couple collaborators, I don't think it matters whether you merge back or not, but you'll always be able to compare!
