i find it more than a little strange that i got absolutely no information about this contest (sd59 dfl chair) prior to maybe a couple days ago, when i saw widner being promoted on bsky.

using my best judgment, i am abstaining from this one. i feel i don't have enough information.

i'm starting to think that the establishment's opposition to badge votes last year was not entirely made in good faith

tbh neither candidate speech seemed really enlightening to me

for whatever it's worth, i'm a little conflicted about this sd59 dfl chair election. widner has been endorsed by people i tend to align with. but i've met brown, albeit years ago, and he struck me as someone of good faith. i am paying attention to the speeches.

reading my bsky timeline, interspersed as it is with news of Middle East violence and foreboding over potential WWIII, as i sit in the North High auditorium where we debate voting methods and hear from state auditor candidates, has kind of a War of the Worlds feel tbh

i know nothing, but the motion to elect officers by plurality smelled to me. i'm glad it's being ?tabled? ?postponed? hashtag aaaggggghhh

i'm at the SD59 DFL convention. my seat is giving me something of a birds-eye view. i'm here to support ilhan omar and peggy flanagan, hopefully by electing supporters other than me to the higher level conventions. this feels like about as far as i can go these days.

i'm back. not sure how much i'll be saying. much gratitude to my neighbors for their phenomenal world-changing effort these past several weeks. ☮️

"Q2 is not on the ballot this year!" But the unresolved schism is.

I read Liam's thread yesterday about the dire state of city government under Frey. That these conditions weren't and aren't common knowledge, says something strange and deeply discouraging about the ?culture? ?power structure? in our city, and is a big part of why Frey may win re-election anyway.

I guess I'm saying: If the mayor is re-elected in spite of it all, it may not mean that the slate was bad strategy. Rather it may just mean that left-of-center folks still don't have the numbers. Part of the bleak reality of today.

I think there's a grain of truth to the thought that bsky is part of a bubble, just as the Strib/WCCO/etc (and of course RW media) are in bubbles. In 2017 and '21, their bubbles were just bigger than ours. In their bubbles, Frey's the devil you know. 2/

I ranked Hampton 1, Davis 2, Fateh 3. I'm expecting Frey to win, Jazz to do better than expected, and Fateh supporters to be disappointed by the RCV reallocations.
I don't think the 2021 no-on-2 voters are done being freaked out by the possibility of real change. (I voted Kate/Sheila, yes on 2.) 1/
