How Bath & Body Works Comes Up With Its Holiday Scents Every year, Bath & Body Works introduces a new scent that it hopes will break through during the shopping season. It doesn’t have to smell like gingerbread.

Every year, Bath & Body Works releases 250 new fragrances, but it puts muscle behind just a few, like β€œPerfect in Pink,” that it expects to carry the holiday shopping season. β€œIt’s an art and a science,” said the senior vice president of merchandising of the company.

Another good BMJ Christmas conclusion: surgeons showed greater dexterity in completing the buzz wire game, but higher levels of swearing compared with other hospital staff roles. #medsky

Urinary Catheterization Management in Older Adults With Hip Fracture: A Systematic Review Urinary catheterization is a common procedure in the perioperative management of patients with hip fracture. However, decisions on its insertion or removal are often variable. This systematic review aimed to synthesize current evidence on urinary catheterization management in older patients with hip fracture by thoroughly reviewing the implementation of structured programs.

Appreciate this important work in @jama.com addressing AYA ages 12-39 and their EOL goals. We need more research here - this population (while broad!) has unique considerations at EOL. #hapc #MedPeds #medsky

Chronic pancreatitis Chronic pancreatitis is a progressive fibroinflammatory disease primarily caused by a complex interplay of environmental and genetic risk factors. It might result in pancreatic exocrine and endocrine insufficiency, chronic pain, reduced quality of life, and increased mortality. The diagnosis is based on the presence of typical symptoms and multiple morphological manifestations of the pancreas, including pancreatic duct stones and strictures, parenchymal calcifications, and pseudocysts. Management of chronic pancreatitis consists of prevention and treatment of complications, requiring a multidisciplinary approach focusing on lifestyle modifications, exocrine insufficiency, nutritional status, bone health, endocrine insufficiency, pain management, and psychological care.

Reason for consult: let's do this bup thing

Yes. We use bup all the time for chronic pain if trying to decrease OME, but depending on how high it was prior, have faster and slower options to microinduce (I usually do with films to have more control).

A Good Day | NEJM Shared decision making takes time that most clinicians don’t have. So one medical team developed some shortcuts for eliciting essential input from patients with multiple complex problems.

Great question to ask our patients during a clinical encounter:
"If we could help you with only one thing today, what would you want it to be?"

The Hidden Harms of CPR The brutal procedure can save lives, but only in particular cases. Why has it become a default treatment?

Although CPR has become synonymous with medical heroism, nearly 85 per cent of those who receive it in a hospital die. Why has it remained the norm?

They covered the $100 CPT code for vaccine administration - none of the cost of the actual vaccines.

Agreed - I happened to be on vacation, so that wasn’t possible. I did try to complete the series with them, but couldn’t - was told PCPs don’t stock it, as it’s not often needed - told to go to the ER.

Compared with many, this is a small bill. But CONTRACTING RABIES would be $$$, and the vaccine/Ig are the recommended post-exposure prophylaxis immediately after event. How would you prefer I had obtained that?

I'm a doctor. Our healthcare system is broken. #medsky (2/2)

@aetnahelp.bsky.social

I was bitten by a bat on vacation and had to go to the ER for the rabies vaccine. I called 3 urgent cares (cheaper since this wasn't an emergency) - none stock it. Called DPH - told to go to ER. Went to the ER, got Rabies Ig and Rabies vaccine -- $1500 (1/2).

My personal beef is that we order the MOST restrictive diet (cardiac, consistent carb, renal, etc) and then adjust the insulin/diuretics/phos binders to that, knowing the pt will leave the hospital and eat whatever they want. Better to liberalize the diet and work to make the meds fit their life!

Thinking about thickened liquids today after watching hospital trays yesterday - I heard multiple families ask to prioritize joy for their older adult parent by allowing them to have β€œreal” thanksgiving food.
