Ethical qualms aside, I am open to AI being tolerable and useful for the delivery of information. But for anything with a soul, you need a soul on the other hand -- if only, now, to separate it from what will be infinite soulless alternatives

This is it. The grammatical tic, the weird capitalization, the stumble, the semicolon where a comma might do: they are the rasp in a singer's throat or the slide of a fingers down a fretboard, or a whoop of joy.
Writing is communication and communication without a writer feels infinitely hollow.

The thing is, there can be a piece of decent writing made by AI, but there is no brain on the other side. Turns out that’s what I wanted all along

Drive to Survive, which is back in Netflix, is similar. A little bit propaganda but also just fun and big noises and nice visuals

i'm a classical social democrat. i think we should raise tax on the upper tax brackets, increase broad-based tax enforcement, and provide universal programs on transit, housing, and healthcare. this apparently is viewed as neoliberalism

No, this just means you'd probably be a miserable good politician.
(Similar to the same way that the worst bosses tend to be those who crave being a boss.)

And, frankly, right now Department of War is waaaaaaaay more accurate than Department of Defence. The latter is way more euphemistic (and, one could argue, would be better for propaganda) at the moment.

I'm sorry but an institution's official name is determined by the institution. If we start singling ministries with dumb or hypocritical names for spontaneous journalist renaming, we will end up in some pretty damn confusing places.

This is also hardly the only site to do this. It might be baked into human nature by evolution.
But it is also aggravated by culture. We love apocalyptic fiction. And we never think the takeaway of a movie about a hero saving the world is that usually, something happens to save the world.

US aid cuts: $45bn
UK aid cuts: $8.2bn
EU aid cuts: $2.5bn
France aid cuts: $2bn
German aid cuts: $2bn
Canada aid cuts: $675m
Aid has dropped by over 50% in the last two years. So it’s a good job the world is a lot safer now and there are definitely no major humanitarian crises brewing!

The reason we have idiots deriding these rules is they have forgotten that the rules exist for their own benefit as well.

Tonight, two of the white nationalists I reported on in this piece showed up to attempt to intimidate me on a private night out at a small music venue.
I’ll have more to say tomorrow. I’m safe.

The very obvious problem with this implementation of popularism, as a purely political matter, is that you are *constantly* raising the salience of your worst issues!

In 41 years, I have driven on every southwest/central bc highway except 97D through Logan Lake. I've been within a couple kilometres of the town mannny times on 97C multiple times. So I'm unreasonably satisfied to be spending a couple days there this weekend (for a kids hockey thing)

The thing with atom hockey is it usually comes with some level of tension cause you never know what the damn kids are going to do, even if you do know it probably won't be anything good.
