Opinion | Obama Supported It. The Left in Canada and Norway Does. Why Don’t Democrats?
This Yglesias piece in the NYT is horrifically bad. Almost every "fact" it cites is provably false. At best it is cocktail party banter from a pundit who knows nothing of energy. At worst, it was cut/paste from oil industry talking points. So, a rebuttal: www.nytimes.com/2025/12/18/o...

What the F is happening? Part 3
I talk with Senate vet Adrian Deveny about the House GOP's "Big Beautiful Bill," which would almost entirely wipe out four years of climate policy.
I recently joined @volts.wtf on his podcast to unpack the Republican reconciliation bill moving through Congress – a bill with huge implications for U.S. energy and climate policy.

Always a good time to share this. How cheap does gasoline have to be before it's as cheap as an electric vehicle? #energysky

A chart shows a range of modeling studies' projections of US greenhouse gas emissions under current policies, showing a roughly 40-55% reduction below peak emissions in 2005 by 2035.
Today, the Biden Admin announced a new goal to cut US greenhouse gases 61-66% below peak levels by 2035. The current target is 50-52% by 2030. Based on several modeling efforts, including our REPEAT Project, the USA is on track to ~40-55% below peak by 2035, before Trump starts dismantling things.🔌💡

A lot of people still don’t realize that dramatic cost reductions in geothermal is something happening *right now*, not theoretically in the future.
Here is a look at the cost numbers published by NREL every year for Deep Enhanced Geothermal. A 50% improvement in 2024 with a lot more to come.

But for all my grid geeks out there, my favorite part of this rule: reducing the cost of interconnecting most clean generators--including network upgrade costs paid to a utility--by 30%!
This can help us unlock interconnection queues and get more grid built.
A true sleeper provision from IRA.

When TIME selected me for the Time 100 Climate list this year, they asked me: What is the single most important action you think the public, or a specific company or government (other than your own), needs to take in the next year to advance the climate agenda?
Here was my reply... 🧵

With eleven months of the year now in, 2024 will be the warmest year on record in the ERA5 dataset, at around 1.59C (with a 95% confidence interval of 1.57C to 1.61C given uncertainty in December temperatures).

I know the future feels bleak for Federal climate policy, but this was always going to be a long journey. Thank you to my dear friend @leahstokes.bsky.social for inviting me to UCSB to talk about the road ahead.
