Tbf my own school is going the right way - there is less of this kind of thing recently, and some of it makes sense practically e.g updates to staff handbook etc.
We are seeing more of department sessions that are guided by pre-recorded videos for example. Itβs not the same everywhere though.
Because leadership should want their planned CPD to be worth the time they are paying for it.
Hours of lecturing to uncomfortable staff that will be forgotten within days or hours hardly seems worth paying us to be there.
And the answer βwell if you want better CPD go do it when you arenβt being paidβ is not a satisfactory answer to it - which is what this seems to be coming down to.
To be fair, going back to the original point - no one is arguing that it is not their call.
But if βtheyβ (the mysterious they) make what seem like poor decisions on that, then people will comment on that and voice their dissatisfaction, and there is nothing wrong with that.
The point in this thread is that the quality of the paid for things is extremely questionable - often involving being talked at in a hall for 2-3 hours.
The reason things like teacher led weekend CPD are so successful is because of this widespread inadequacy.
Because in my own time Iβd like to learn things about my extra interests as a person, not the thing I do to pay the bills and fund those interests.
The things that will help me do my job better should be funded by and have time allotted by my employer.
Yeah to be fair, I do this a lot π
I feel like Iβll be getting the block shortly lol
And some of them have some quite funny stories π
Could be worse, could be an inspirational quote on the rainbow
