Preschool for All is rapidly growing. Soon tuition-free preschool will be available to every 3 and 4 year old in MultCo, saving families an average of $18,600 per child.

We stand ready to provide our expertise so the success of PFA can expand to all of Oregon’s current and future young families.

When a bill is posted for a work session, the amendments should be posted as soon as possible. A committee may not take action on an amendment unless is has been posted for four hours in a House committee or one hour in a Senate committee.

There’s no requirement for amendments in a hearing.

I had to leave for an event just minutes before this. The crowd was full of kids, elders, and dogs, all peaceful, marching with union banners. The plumes that I saw went up from a distance are just bonkers.

And this is why say ABOLISH. They are galvanizing the resistance with this violence.

image of Commissioner Singleton with a quote. The quote reads:
State-funded violence through federal agents needs to end. This kind of immigration enforcement and ICE activity must stop. I know many people are scared right now. We have people dying in detention, agents killing people in the streets, and communities left devastated. My heart goes out to so many communities. The way that federal agents are behaving is unacceptable.

I encourage folks to turn their outrage into action. In times like these, community is critical. To find ways to get engaged, volunteer, or find resources, check out my LinkTree, take MigraWatch training, learn where you can be helpful in supporting your local nonprofits serving immigrants and refugees, find opportunities to connect with your community, and find opportunities for joy.

I agree with Candace. And I am NOT anti-policing (to the dismay of many on this platform, I acknowledge). But this cannot be reformed. This cannot be fixed. ICE has become the federal administration’s brown shirts.

Abolish ICE.

I am sickened and angry about the escalating violence our community continues to suffer at the hands of this authoritarian federal regime and their ICE bullies. Time and time again, we take to our streets with non-violent protests only to be met with federally funded violence and physical harm. People in our communities are not escalating this violence, they are. The shooting of human beings is not acceptable. Enough is enough. ICE is not welcome here.

An image featuring a formal statement from the Multnomah County Board of Commissioners regarding a federal shooting in East Portland.Statement from Board of Commissioners on federal shooting in East Portland:

What we can say now is enough is enough. The terror and violence ICE is causing in our neighborhoods must end now. The County will not stand by as the federal government attacks our neighbors. We stand united in our support for our immigrant and refugee neighbors. Just this morning, we unanimously voted to extend an emergency declaration in response to the ongoing harm caused by ICE activity, and we will keep showing up every way we can.

We know County residents are angry. We are angry. Portlanders have a proud tradition of opposing injustice through nonviolent protest, and we encourage our community to keep showing up as they have been to oppose this horrific violence. We must stand together.

More tuition-free preschool seats than expected likely coming to Portland-area next year The news comes shortly after early data suggested the county program may need to hit a much smaller target to reach “universal” tuition-free preschool.

Multnomah County announced today that it has offered 7,460 tuition-free Preschool for All seats to providers for the 2026-27 school year. This initial allocation has the potential to nearly double the current enrollment capacity of 3,844 seats.

Multnomah County and Portland leaders, community partners call on Trump administration to fund food assistance to prevent hardship, hunger and suffering for 136,000 County residents The federal administration can immediately act to release these contingency funds at any time — today, even — and spare 136,000 of our neighbors from needless suffering and hunger.

Together we are calling on the Trump administration to immediately release contingency funds that will keep millions of Americans from hunger, including roughly 136,000 people in Multnomah County alone who rely on federal food assistance.

That’s almost 1 in 5 Multnomah County residents.
