Energy minister says new gas projects need to sell locally The energy minister says new projects could not export everything they produce and need to offer at least something to the local market.

The gas market needs the review announced by the govt. It’s failing Australians.

> 75% of our gas is shipped offshore while households and manufacturers pay through the nose.

But we don’t need new gas. We need a fair share from the gas we already export.

The east coast gas review is a chance to improve transparency — but expanding gas isn’t the answer. With most of our gas exported and methane pollution rising, we must focus on electrifying homes if we want to lower electricity bills and meet emissions reduction targets.

Toxic algal blooms are killing dolphins, sharks, rays and other marine life in South Australian waters, in the same week that reversal of current flows are reported for the first time in the Southern Ocean.

But still our government approves massive polluting gas projects like the North West shelf.

Australians could cut power bills by 90% if they made their homes more energy efficient, report finds Debate on how to generate energy ‘important but misses the point’, analyst says, when you can get such savings by using solar, batteries and efficient appliances

Australians could cut power bills by up to 90% but not everyone can afford the upfront cost.

A new report confirms energy-efficient homes, rooftop solar and batteries can save households $1000s every year.

Govt should ensure this is available to all.

As climate risks grow, local councils are bearing the cost. Damage in NB council alone could reach $1B a year by 2060, yet just 13% of federal disaster funds go to prevention. Trust in government is at an all-time low. The Centre for Public Integrity has released a set of recommendations for greater transparency and accountability. Most are covered by my private member’s bill - the Clean Up Politics Act.

The algal bloom off South Australia’s coast is a devastating consequence of climate change.

We need stronger emissions targets, real investment in environmental science, and leadership that matches the urgency of this crisis.

Today the Federal Court found that our Commonwealth does not owe a duty of care to protect its citizens from climate change or cultural loss.

It accepted that our emissions targets are inadequate and that climate change is hurting Torres Strait Islanders and irrevocably damaging their communities.

Independent MP to push for lowering of Australian voting age Independent MP for Kooyong Monique Ryan vows to introduce a bill to parliament aimed at lowering the minimum voting age, after the UK decided to reduce its voting age from 18 to 16.

If you can leave school, get a job, and pay taxes, you should have a say on the things that matter to you.

It’s time to drop the voting age to 16 and give young Australians the voice they deserve.

This morning I moved an amendment to better define disorderly conduct in Parliament—including harassment, bullying and intimidation. Clear standards matter. While not passed, the Govt has committed to further consideration. Parliament must be a respectful and professional workplace. #auspol

Voters deserve better than spam texts and misinformation.

I've long called for truth in political advertising laws and a ban on unsolicited political messages. It's time our electoral laws caught up with community expectations.

People who tell the truth should be protected, not punished.

But right now there are massive gaps in our whistleblower protection laws.

Creating a Whistleblower Protection Authority is an essential integrity reform for the next parliament.
