They had an election in which this was the central issue. The candidates who said they favored the scheme won by significant margins. Then Council stalled and have now called it off. And pedestrians and cyclists will pay the price.

"Catastrophic failure of leadership" is exactly what this is.

I don’t know, sorry. Can only think they have not been replaced as they get damaged, due to less traffic issues now. I’ll check out the skip and ask the Highways Engineer.

Sarah’s video and this piece really say it how it is. Some of the driving & parking in our area is appalling and has become normalised. Our representatives must take action - children deserve to be protected. #SafeStreetsNow!

I may have my frustrations and disappointments about Starmer as a domestic politician, but internationally, I think he’s serious, responsible and trying to do his best for U.K. in unbelievably complex int’l environment, despite treasonous ghouls like Farage doing their best to undermine him.

Thank you Kirsten & Neils. I cycled down later after seeing you, very pleased to see it clear of mulch.

We gave up waiting for the council to clear the cycle path and did it ourselves this morning - if a job’s worth doing… πŸš²πŸ‚

Thanks to Moseley Litterbusters for the bags and the inspiration!

Each year tens of thousands of Americans accidentally kill The psychological toll it takes is hugeβ€”and mostly hidden

Much attention is rightfully paid to the victims. But far too little is given to the tens of thousands of people struggling after unintentionally taking a life

The Midwest’s remarkable turnaround For the first time in 70 years, more Americans are coming than going

My article this week, on how domestic migration into the Midwest has turned positive for the first time... in decades probably?

www.economist.com/united-state...

The most plausible reason why is the declining appeal and affordability of the South rather than the Midwest getting cool, but hey

The annual social cost of urban road noise in England is Β£7-Β£10 billion & the WHO identified environmental noise as the second largest environmental health risk in Western Europe. LTNs & 20mph speed limits can massively improve this.

Refugees are essentially unique among immigrants to the US, in that they are *literally invited* to live in America, by law. They are vetted, usually in refugee camps like Dadaab in Kenya, and their travel costs and resettlement costs are covered by the American government

What the world can learn from Paris’s cycling revolution The Paris cycling change did not happen by accident. It was driven by political will, strategic use of data, and a willingness to rethink street space.

β€œParis, long known for traffic jams and crowded boulevards, has rapidly transformed into a city defined by bikes. In just five years, cycling’s modal share in the French capital has more than doubled, rising from 5% to 11%…This surge didn’t happen by accident…” via @momentummag.bsky.social
