🔹 Skin barrier dysfunction is an important contributor
🔹 Always consider atopic dermatitis and other non-CKD etiologies of pruritus first!
🔹 CKD-associated pruritus is multifactorial, driven by accumulation of uremic toxins like p-cresyl sulfate & indoxyl sulfate & with gut microbiome disturbances
🔹 Primarily histamine-independent neural pathways & associated with IL-31 & altered circulating T cell populations
