This week's Shift Key podcast episode is titled What Senator Brian Schatz Wants Climate Advocates to Know
The Trump Admin. has been waging a punishing assault on the US clean energy transition. This week on SHIFT KEY, we talk to Senator Brian @Schatz.bsky.social about how clean energy companies, climate advocates and Democrats can fight back, whether we're in a Constitutional crisis, and more. ππ‘ ππ
"The Trump administration is about to face dozens and perhaps hundreds of lawsuits over breach of contract," writes @robinsonmeyer.bsky.social: heatmap.news/politics/tru... ππ‘
Hmm. Sounds like a great time to hamstring our own wind and solar deployment in the US. Just for fun, ya know?
I don't think there is anything the GOP can do about elected officials saying that
Dems should just straight up say companies building there over the next 4 years are risking building stranded assets if Dems are elected in 2028. Time to play hardball
Where should I start if I want to learn more about AI and specifically DeepSeek? The impact on electricity demand interests me the most. Is this model as big of a deal as people on Twitter are making it out to be?

trying to wrap my head around a government all but shutting down growth in an entire private industry and it getting a delicate shrug from major america media
cringe tbh
What happened to the "all of the above energy strategy" the GOP usually talks about? Wind and solar are the vast majority of new additions. Is he trying to hurt the economy? Maybe he just doesn't care because there is no 3rd term to run for.
Trump going after offshore wind was predictable but adding onshore wind is insane, even for him. That is a massive industry that mainly operates in Republican-governed states. Surely some of their elected officials will push back on this, right?
Man his post on Twitter about it was so cringe
The Inflation Reduction Act has been an economic engine across America. In just 2.5 years it has:
-Created >400,000 jobs
-Attracted >$422 billion in investments
Clean energy is a bipartisan success story, building a stronger nation.

That's great but I really hope they don't completely kill offshore wind. It is New England's best bet for quickly adding local utility-scale renewables. I support new nuclear and hydro as well, but offshore wind should be a notable part of a future mix. Guess we just bunker down for 4 years...
Woah. This is big.
I just hope most of the IRA survives due to states like Georgia receiving so much investment. And I hope this phenomenon in Oklahoma spreads as little as possible. A statewide ban on renewables is insane.
Younger me would have thought someone like Musk would present a compelling argument for renewables to Republicans but he is too busy trying to oust European leaders from power to care about his original interest: clean energy. I don't know who has the political capital to fight back in this moment.

Although we don't see a clear link to electric utility negligence for the current fires, this book is still useful for understanding California's wildfire risk in general.

Check out that drop in evening gas generation! Storage (+ solar) is crushing the evening peak in California. ππ‘
No transition without transmission. I am ashamed we didn't get transmission permitting reform done when we had more federal influence.
The more I think about it, the more insane this becomes. Only someone looking after just the ultrawealthy thinks we were a wealthier country during 1870-1914 than during the 2nd half of the 20th century. They are advocating for MORE wealth inequality right in our faces and getting away with it.
From heat pump water heaters and rooftop solar to replacing coal with batteries, these are the energy transition stories that resonated most this year.
Canary Mediaβs top 10 clean energy stories in 2024:
I feel like I am living through some bad movie. MAGA will find the most dated, regressive policy ideas and get away with repackaging them as a way to uplift the whole country. Yet the decades they point to were only greater for basically the top 0.01%.
Biden literally averaged higher GDP growth than Trump's first term but okay
After a lot of introspection, I have come to the conclusion that this is when everything started to truly go downhill at an unprecedented rate. I will not be taking any questions.
