The cold season is in full swing, throats are scratchy, noses are running🤧. Hopefully it’s not the flu 🤞. Scientists from our institute, @embl.org, & @pasteur.fr have deciphered the process by which the influenza virus steals the cap of the host RNA to replicate.

We reprocessed EMPIAR-11918 and achieved 2.76 Å in 50.5 compute hours.

Sub-3 Å at ~40 kDa is a strong example of what modern cryo-EM workflows (and RELION with Blush) can deliver for small targets.

We say goodbye to Jens Frahm 👋 – as head of Biomedizinische NMR Forschungs GmbH & our institute’s Biomedical NMR research group, he achieved groundbreaking scientific successes. His FLASH patent is the most successful of the Max Planck Society @maxplanck.de to date.
