If stable isotopes are part of your research, they should be one of your strengths β not something you βsort ofβ understand.
Thatβs why I built this course.
A map of the Halifax peninsula with different coloured lines representing street priority for winter clearing.
Nice to see all the #hfxws data on a single map for Halifax, Dartmouth and HRM! Many thanks to

Thank you! It's always wonderful working with students to investigate environmental questions.
The Project Thin Ice is led by @rebeccanorth.bsky.social. Here's a nice article about this global project! www.columbiamissourian.com/news/state_n...
Mallory Jarvis wearing a bright orange ice safety suit kneeling on a lake ice surface, holding up a small zooplankton net over a hole in the ice.
View of the zooplankton net going through a hole drilled in a lake ice surface.
Microscopy photos of a tiny copepod with bright orange lipid droplets and a cute round Bosmina which has obviously been eating algae.
A close up of the water surface seen through a hole in the ice. White specks can be seen -- those are zooplankton thriving under the ice!
Last week, Dr. Jess Younker and Mallory Jarvis headed out for winter lake sampling when the ice was nice and thick. Our team were sampling for the "Project Thin Ice", a global phytoplankton research program & added our own zooplankton biomonitoring. @smuscience.bsky.social

Government, academic, industry and nonprofit scientists all have important roles. We need all of them for a thriving healthy Canada. Losing so many federal scientists is not good for our country. www.cbc.ca/radio/whaton...
Two crows are flying through a snowstorm. "I can hardly see a thing!" yells one, "We can't keep going like this!" The other one replies "Let's take a break!" They land in a snow-covered field, the snow is falling gently. "Oh!" exclaims one while looking around at the peaceful scene, "It's so beautiful when you aren't fighting against it."

Had a quick peek and it looks so awesome!
Waiting for the hard copy - my plan is to make a cup of tea and curl up with the book. π«βοΈ ππ¦β€οΈ Thank you.
A snowy scene in suburb Halifax. Everything is fresh snow eith the exception of circles in road left by tires of a snow plow
Another snow day! Love the interesting tracks.
UPDATE:
Due to weather conditions, weβve made the decision to move tonightβs talk entirely online. The event will now take place on Zoom instead of the original location at St. FX.
We hope youβll still be able to join us virtually this evening!
Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Some folks just don't have the spoons available and in those cases, it's important to save those for advocacy work. π
Really looking forward to working with the @contaminantsenvsoc.bsky.social team in 2026. Already seeing some very interesting manuscripts coming in.
If you and your team investigates contaminants / ecotoxicology with societal aspects, do consider submitting your MS's to this journal!
Can any of those two words be combined in a phrase for more specificity? π€
For sure -- I'm going through the document but getting a bit bogged down. Which pages are those recommendations located? I want to share specific pages for my colleagues who may not be able to work through the whole document.
Thanks. I already emailed my councillor... i can also email the clerk too. :)
Thank you for the fast response! Sharing with colleagues who use wheelchairs.
@terri.bsky.social , where can I find this information in the HRM documents? Thanks for your help!
Tonight's the night!

A corner of a concrete shed wooden door. A garbage bin is next to shed. Garbage bin and shed are almost the same grey-blue colour. Everything is covered in snow. The only pops of colour is the rusty iron hinges and bar on the door.
Snow day today. Colours and scenes change so much, showing beauty in unexpected places.
Perfect post for an ecologist to read on a snow day!
Abundant Eocene fossils of plants and animals are found in the Green River Formation of Wyoming, Colorado and Utah. This fossil Pseudosalix Hanleyi, with stems, leaves and flowers preserved, is harder to find than a T-rex tooth!
