It's a trend that is quietly changing the character of neighborhoods, block by block, as buildings that once housed a dozen or more New Yorkers become single-family dwellings.
Ultra-rich buyers are consolidating New York townhouse apartments into giant single-family homes. Some are buying two, even three adjacent townhomes to build a franken-house.

Behind the preserved historical facades, the ultra-rich are buying up adjacent townhomes in the West Village and Upper East Side, combining them into a megamansion. It's part of a broader trend of small multifamily buildings being turned into single-family homes. www.bloomberg.com/graphics/202...
NYCβs newest billionaire status symbol: a double-wide townhouse.
Ultra-wealthy buyers are combining 2β3 historic townhomes into mega-mansions designed to feel like suburban estates β in the middle of the Manhattan.
Here's the latest with @sooophie.bsky.social www.bloomberg.com/graphics/202...
A screenshot of 3 3D modeled townhomes side by side. They are all rendered using a grey material, but the two on the right have a brick texture.
A detailed 3D exploded isometric diagram of a multi-story mega-mansion, resulting from the combination of two townhouses at 105 and 1017 Bank Street. The graphic highlights several features, including an excavated subcellar containing a wine cellar, gym, sauna, and media room. Above the subcellar, the kitchen and family room occupy the garden level, with the main entrance and living/dining area on the parlor floor, above. A grand spiral staircase is shown connecting all levels, replacing the two original staircases. The upper floors include a primary suite with a 2,000-plus pound bathtub and multiple secondary bedrooms. The diagram is topped by a rooftop level added during construction that features a study and a bathroom.
Come for the story and data, pls stay for the many hours spent in Blender texturing faΓ§ades + building that spiral central staircase β was it very crucial, probably not
We looked at where and how the ultra-rich are buying and combining two β sometimes three β adjacent townhomes to convert them into single-family housing (often featuring an elevator and a flashy central staircase.)

Each time you ask an AI chatbot a question, it sends a request to a data center and strains an increasingly scarce resource: water.

When Trump announced a reception and dinner for the top holders of his meme coin, crypto traders began jockeying for an invite. It's virtually impossible to know who these people are so we dug into the data. Turns out: more than half of them are probably foreign.

(Bloomberg) - More than half of the top holders of President Donald Trumpβs memecoin β who are jockeying for dinner with the president β have used foreign exchanges that say they ban US users, suggesting that many of the purchasers are based outside the US.

Wow. All but 6 of the top 25 Trump memecoin holders who registered for his contest bought their tokens on foreign crypto exchanges.
This is the most corrupt grift in presidential history.
An article and chart showing that 76% of the value of Trumpβs meme coin is coming from foreign investors funneling money to him.
Trumpβs contest to see who can bribe him the most through his meme coin is being dominated by foreign investors.
Thereβs a reason why Trump fired the ethics watchdog overseeing the executive branch, and the team investigating crypto fraud.
These are bribes, and this is corruption.

Steep increase in data centers to run AI threatens already stressed US power grids, likely causing power distortions to nearby homes. It's probably only going to get worse as improvements to grids can't keep up. By @leonardonclt.bsky.social @naurtorious.bsky.social

AI Needs So Much Power, Itβs Making Yours Worse
#news #worldnews
AI might threaten millions of jobs and make jobs that still exist much harder and undermine education and illegally scrape writing from authors and creators and worsen climate change and gobble up water supplies, sure, but at least it also might be fucking up the actual power supply to your house
AI data centers are multiplying across the United States and sucking up huge amounts of power. New evidence shows they may also be distorting the normal flow of electricity for millions of USians. #opcanary
Real life is not like science fiction, where the power usage required for processing rarely, if ever, factors into the plot.
I still care very much about the ethics of AI usage but I really think its environmental and infrastructural impact desperately needs more exposure.
