Canadian novelist-in-progress & Sea People's fan girl. Doing okay (allegedly). They want us too sick and worn down to fight back. Wearing an N95 is an act of resistance and an act of liberation. AI is built on stolen art.

Can't quite believe this needs repeating, but:

If you're using commercialised LLM extruders for any reason - whether it's rewriting an email, deploying a "thinking partner" or doing "research" for your next book...

You are handling stolen goods

You are sanctioning plagiarism

Stop

Think of all the notebooks I could replace! Think of all the documents I could tag and organize and make easily searchable! Think about all the useful diagrams I could draw and add typed text to!

Now if I just had a spare $1200 lying around

Maybe that's why so many people in power continue to push the narrative that covid is "over" but also "not a big deal"

Hard to push back when you've got brain damage.

Just a quiet word for anyone storing jerry cans of fuel in the garage: improper storage of fuel in quantity can potentially invalidate home insurance

Fun fact for my alt text peeps: this author's hate on for badly designed doors is how we got the term Norman Doors

When you read the last book at the library the librarians take you to the secret book binding room, flay you, and turn your skin into a book.

"Not only don't people work less when they are guaranteed an income, they might actually put in more effort at work. And the fact that they have more money to spend leads to the creation of more jobs."

The Calgary Public Library has announced that they plan to offer an artist in residency program specifically for artists who use AI. Given that AI is build on work stolen from real artists and writers I find this appalling.

Fellow Calgarians, please reach out to the CPL & share your thoughts!

Yup.

I used to check my banking app before I bought ANYTHING and it took YEARS for me to break the habit. I'm mostly okay now, though buying anything over $100 stresses me out and I still get legitimately grumpy if I forget to clip a coupon and have to pay full price

I have never met anyone who is more adept at tracking every last cent they have than people who live or have lived in poverty

it is a skill developed out of necessity and it never leaves you

Spouse's predecessor was like this & let's just say that he's an ex for a reason

I wish I had believed I deserved better BEFORE he dumped me, but dumping me was actually the best thing he ever did b/c then I met Spouse

Sending you hugs if you want them. I know it hurts now but this too shall pass
