This reasoning could easily be extended to LGBQ people as well. They could say it's not irrational for a state to ensure an appreciation for one's sex by promoting heterosexual relationships rather than gay relationships.
What's so insidious about this particular line is that it sets a framework for courts to bless any number of coercive measures by state and federal governments to get people to not transition. It establishes coercing people not to transition as a legitimate government interest.

The federal government has a massive database with sensitive info for every kid involved in a state child support case -- and the current addresses of many single moms who survived domestic abuse.

Sorry to act out but I have zero patience for people who think it's okay to question the right to existence of trans people or anyone else simply based on their identities.
When I see people doing it or encouraging it I want them to feel what it's like to be under that gun as rapidly as possible.
Like the constant Trolley Problem chatter feels linked to the over-eagerness of the Yglesiases and Newsoms of the world to find vulnerable people to sacrifice for the greater good. Like it's a way to make HURTING people somehow seem VIRTUOUS.
