Reflecting on an incredible premiere of my piece, “Sonder & Ozurie”, commissioned by the Chicago Composers Orchestra.

Dès Vu - The awareness that this moment will become a memory.

And forever grateful to Lesley Swanson, Jonathan Hannau, and the stellar ensemble that is the Chicago Composers Orchestra for entrusting me to write my first true, orchestral and large-scale work.

This has been my favorite and most emotional work to date. It demanded a lot from me to get to the heart of these words, and I desperately couldn’t wait to share it with you all. It’s why I “marketed” this premiere so heavily, and I’m grateful for such a good turnout.
All I ever hope to do is share my music with as many people as possible and create an experience for the listener. To create for me in hopes it’s not just for me. To communicate in the only way music can.
Heart is so full. ❤️🥹🙏🏽

I wrote a symphonic sketch about two words:
“Sonder & Ozurie”
Sonder - The realization that each random passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your own.
Ozurie - Feeling torn between the life you have and the one you want.

This has been a labor of love and I absolutely CAN'T WAIT TO SHARE IT WITH YOU ALL. It's perhaps my most emotional work as well, and the piece takes you on quite a sonic adventure about the human experience. I'll talk more in coming posts about what the two words in the title mean, so stay tuned!
