I agree that itβs an important tool. I just think people wouldnβt be as susceptible if the economy wasnβt rigged. There are βrealβ grievances being exploited to promote hatred against women, minorities & the disabled.
To stop Alpha from going this way we need to focus on both the tech and economy.

Oh I think they deserve the βmale lonelinessβ epidemic. I just think that focusing on tech misses the wider cause of this shift. The post 2008 rapid increase in inequality has meant that no one has a real shot at replicating any wealth, leaving them open to scapegoating (misogyny, racism) propaganda

I wouldnβt underestimate how inequality has allowed this to resonate. Gen Z are about to be 30 and have been given such a raw deal that scapegoating becomes easier.

I met some brilliant individuals at Columbia, who were only there because of their military service. I feel for those who wonβt have access to their dream schools, especially if they are from the area.

I left Canada the day of the Brexit vote, receiving the results on the plane. I've never regretted moving to the UK. It's home. Still, it would be hard to take a leap of faith to move to the UK in 2026. The instability through my 20's and 30's would be too high to justify the risk.

Can we please focus on some men instead of directing our scorn to women?
Iβm not even here to defend anyone, but the perpetrators havenβt even been charged.
This can come across like a misogynist misdirection.

Ableism is terrible, but the fact that the N word is in that manβs mind at all is the problem. Too many people seem to equate it with less harmful swearing when it exists and is used to harm a group of people. Of course itβs offensive.
Plus BBC didnβt bleep it when they bleeped Palestine references

One of my largest anxieties is that WFH will be unavailable in the future. I'm hoping the rumour that the UK government is looking to put into law rights to work from home is real.

As someone who is immunocompromised and in academia, I only engage with virtual conferences because academics are like the general population: some are vaccinated, some are not.
Being a PhD doesn't make them special.
What refusing to wear a mask does is exclude the vulnerable who can't risk it.

You know what could fix this? Work from home. Could literally become an economic boom for the country if London jobs were available to more locations. Company productivity would go up, and people could afford homes. It would also revitalize areas.
