The Civil Rights Movement changed the world because it spoke to the truth that our struggles are intertwined. Informed by Black history, SIECUS was founded with the principle that liberation includes sexual freedom and freedom from sexual violence for all.
The Civil Rights Movement was a roar for connection against a system built on keeping those it labeled "others" down and preserving quiet over justice. Defeated but not destroyed, that system continues to erase certain leaders from the spotlight or smooth over their legacies.
