we'll see but there are always a bunch of names in the bargain bin

i'm thinking of guys in the Mrazek/Vanecek/Skinner tier. like, they're not reliably good, but neither is Stolarz, and i'm going to guess none of those guys is >$1.5M on a one-year this summer.

I think he probably is better than this, I just think teams will either prefer surer bets or cheaper ones in that tier

I think most GMs look at him and say he's a good backup being paid as a 1B, and that's assuming injuries and age aren't eating away at him before he's even begun his extension. I think he's better than that but I doubt you get an asset for him. We're probably gonna find out this summer though.

does Stolarz himself have actual value at this point?

The thing about that move in this context is then you end up with a pretty lousy team built around Adam Fox, which is what the rangers now are, except they have a better goalie

I find him pretty hard to gauge. You have to find the offer (that he'll waive for) where the acquiring team believes he's a winning top three piece

It's a sound way of approaching it tbh

On the one hand all of these hurt my feelings because they feel so much lighter than capital AM Austin Matthews, but they do all give a core asset and I probably have to face that if you're dealing him it's gonna be what feels like a loss

They would make a ton of sense for him if he's interested

We tend to think teams have a greater capacity to impact incoming chance quality 4v5 and thus save percentage, and Laughton would probably have worse stats just as the most used PKF because he's playing the most #1 units. But there's a definite case he (and TOR) have been bailed out by the goalies.
