New piece on All Lit Up. Itβs about the two kinds of grief that drove me to write November, November. One, following the death of Phyllis Webb, kept me prolific. Thank you to the editors for giving this piece space, and to my beautiful readers.

"the book of sentences" by rob mclennan and "November" by Isabella Wang.
Finished a kinda meh book, so, very excited to start one of these (by @robmclennan.bsky.social and @isabellawangbc.bsky.social)
Iβm going on strike because:
- it might rain today
- Iβm out of seamless underwear
- thatβs it for now. Thatβs enough reasons.
Not well enough to submit to lit journals, or edit one. But Iβd love to oversee / guide an issue on illness, chronic / long illness, and healthcare spaces. I have ideas.
Recently, over my birthday weekend, Christina and I read our books in the prettiest venue. And we loved everyone who came. @wildfiresbookshop.bsky.social @christinashah.bsky.social

No one has reached out students relying on student loans. There's been no acknowledgement. We are expected to fall through the cracks. And when we do, and we are falling right now, we are invisible. @cbcstephenquinn.bsky.social @vancouversun.bsky.social @georgiastraight.bsky.social
We've cut out fruit and vegetables largely from our diet and are mostly surviving on cheap pizza and carbs... I stand with union workers. Having relied on Student Aid for years, I understand how hard their jobs are. It's the government and universities I'm disappointed in.
and the past 5 negotiations leading up to this point have been unsuccessful. I'm banking on other funds from my writing - a privilege many other students don't have - but right now all the cheques are stuck due to the Canada Post strike.
is $5000, and we are LUCKY because we rely on the funding for tuition only, not living expenses. I make $2500 a month, our rent and utilities combined is over $2100. The math isn't adding up. The next negotiations won't take place until November,
To give a sense of what we are experiencing, my fiance J is owed close to $10,000 - fall funding being the largest payout of the three semesters each year. His tuition is $2500 that we've had to pay out of pocket this semester. Our tuition combined if we don't have Student Aid funding next semester
We are also supposed to start applying for funding for the following semester. Yet, there is no way to do this. For others, despite the strike, they are still required to make repayments to Student Aid. All of these pressing questions, so far no responses from the government or any BC universities.
- an additional wait time to get funding once the strike ends. Many students rely on this funding not only for tuition, but housing, food, gas, and everything one needs to survive. How will they survive these months? What does it mean for their education to be delayed b/c they can't pay tuition?
What this means is that many students who are applying for funding this fall semester will not receive tuition and living necessities funding. New students entering university who are at-risk or disadvantaged are in the process of getting various independent and disability statuses approved
Quite disappointed of such little coverage on the experiences of students relying on student aid BC funding right now.
Earlier this week, Student Aid went on strike, and everything including upcoming payments, appeals, and funding evaluations have been halted.
